What did the Kings do that makes you think they were tanking?
For starters, they hired Willie Desjardins at all. He was a joke of a coach with the Canucks. Their playoff berth with him was not because of him. Desjardins was so bad, hot mic's picked up one of the broadcast crew having a conversation about how much of a joke he was during what they thought was a commercial break.

The Kings season was already lost, barring some miracle like the Blues had earlier this year with Jordan Binnington coming up and since the current Kings squad is not nearly as good as the current Blues squad, that wasn't going to happen. So once the season was lost, their idea was to bring in Willie Desjardins.

They played Jonathan Quick like he was on a Conn Smythe tear when he was healthy enough to be active on the roster. They didn't play him quite like 1998-2010 Marty Brodeur, but they played him like they actually needed him to play so many games in order to make the playoffs, but he played like a reanimated corpse this year. And they kept throwing him out there.

Tanking means the front office has a goal of losing games to gain a higher draft pick. They would have kept Stevens since they were losing with him

Maybe

But I think Willie gives you a better chance at losing than most coaches.

One other thing to add in was the suspect healthy scratching of Kovalchuk. He’s not that good anymore, but he’s probably no worse than their fourth or fifth best forward. That’s how bad they are these days.

Just looking at their forwards, I see nothing particularly good outside of Kopitar, Toffoli and maybe a resurgent Dustin Brown over the last couple years. Carter looks toast. Even Kovalchuk managed to outscore him in 12 fewer games and tied Toffoli in 18 fewer games.

Outside if this forum tanking refers to a series of player personnel moves made by the front office that make a team worse for the purpose of attaining a higher draft pick. The Kings signed Kovy during the offseason, so clearly the "tanking" was not a thought during the offseason. "Tanking" teams typically are young teams with a low payroll. The Kings are neither. The Kings went 6-3-1 in their last ten despite the "suspect" coaching moves.

Omg the Kings won last night. Ouch ouch ouch. If Travis doesn’t score that goal would they have nosed us out on record? If we had lost certainly.

Oh well, with player development always a mystery, clouded in the haze of the future, maybe we’ll do better with 3 over 2 in the long run. What with the lottery if we even pick in that order.

But last nights win hurts just a little bit.

No, getting 1 pt sealed the deal last night. Devils had the tiebreaker.

Actually, if I remember correctly, we still would have fallen a spot if LA won in regulation or OT and we lost in OT because they would have more ROWs as the first tiebreaker.

Ah true, thought we had a few more ROW than them.
