one of the first rumours I heard was that Corey Perry ’hooked up’ with Chris chelios’ daughter , and that disappeared right away when the Bedard-gate fanfiction swept the nation. But with the renewed john Scott rumours about it being an nbc employee (apparently she’s one of their broadcasters), it seems like that early rumour might have had something to it

Kypreos has obviously bought into the TO media schtick with the bad mouthing of any player that decides on a team other than the Leafs. These guys essentially replaced Tim and Friends during hockey season. For me that was a massive step back for the network. But unless I missed a message somewhere they never asked me for my opinion.
While Kypreos is hated out here a lot, the guy really is keeping his job by bashing the Oilers. Not a lot of people from Ontario want to hear people talk good about the Oilers. They feel better when we are bashed.

Lots of guys out of Toronto I just won't listen to as they aren't geared to an Edmonton audience .

Eitherway (though that's kinda funny actually) the Hawks had a tantrum and got free buyout. lol this league.

Oh well, seems to have work to the Oilers' benefit.

I tend not to, I use we when refering to us fans. But not for the team, I always use the Oilers, as I have no involvement with the team. Really not much if anything I do or have ever done will effect the team.
Actually, this technically isn't true. We fans don't play any role in the outcome of games but the players salaries are essentially paid by we the fans so, in a way, we are part of the team. I also think people say "we" because it's a feeling of unity, feeling a bond with the team and fellow fans.

I don't use "we" much when discussing sports teams outside of some heat of the moment posts in a GDT or after a big win but I can understand why some do.

Everyone is paying everyones salary, the Oilers are a business After all and are selling the on ice product. In that sense you go to the grocery store and buy food, paying the store which pays the employees and say we need to stock the selves more or we need to get these products. No its they need to stock more or they need to get what ever product.

Same for government, we pay taxes who uses the "we" when referring to things the government does or should do?

Darren Pang (Blackhawks color man) comments on the Perry acquisition. Pang is around the Blackhawks team on the ice and he has also seen Perry in the room.
Nothing but positives...

I do listen to this pod daily (I come for the hot takes, but stay for the absurdity). Kyper and Sam McKee are unabashed Leaf taint lickers, Bourne is a bit more objective. Kyper likes to bash TML/MLSE management to pretend he’s not biased but he’s not.

Even yesterday he talked about the alumni events he’s doing for the Laffs during the ASG week as a former Leaf player, like it’s some badge of honour. Won a SC ring in NYR by riding on Messiers coat tails is about his biggest/only claim to fame.

Yeh that’s who they are. Bunch of leaf’s homers pretending to have unbiased takes. Disgusting what hockey coverage in this country has turned into. Both “national” sports networks co-oped by a bunch of Pajama boys. Can’t even get unbiased hockey talk in this country any more.

Holland was very clear about who he talked to. Gregor said before we signed him that he had talk to people in the know and while what Perry was wrong in his opinion it wasn't really something that would discourage him from signing Perry.

The other thing is did Kypreos not listen to the pressor? It's obvious media were digging they just wanted Perry to come out and say exactly what happened.

Yeh that’s the thing about Kypreos. He’s keeps setting up all these “facts” based on ignored reality. His whole narrative based on lies. Edmontons media dug like 4 times in that presser looking for more and we’re stone walled. And here’s the other thing that’s disingenuous, the ENTIRE hockey media landscape including Sportsnet had months to go dig and find out what happened. And yet no one did, but only Edmontons media gets thrown under the bus. It’s complete bull shit designed to make Toronto feel morally superior to the folks in Edmonton.

I find it highly dubious that the Blackhawks would get away with canceling a player's contract because he hit on a chick at a party, NHLPA would be all over that. Mike Richards got arrested with drugs at a border crossing and the Kings still had to pay him in a grievance suit, even the Sharks had to settle up with Kane, but they let the Perry situation go with nary a peep? Something more would have to be going on, maybe not in a sense Perry did something worse than what has been reported, but instead an agreement between player and team or the NHLPA behind the scenes or something.

It would be such a bad precedent if a team could cancel a guaranteed contract over something like this, teams would probably start hiring escorts and have them chase around overpaid players to dump their contracts if it were true.
i wonder what kind of girls are campbells favorite?

Not gonna deepdive into the Corey Perry situation or McLeods brother but some current players are currently paying for what celebrities (not just pro players but all celebrities) were getting away with forever. Moreso in the situation of a near 40yr old player like Corey Perry he'd have seen so much debauchery in his career and especially in SC runs and parties that anything would start to seem normal. The 80's Oilers had friggen orgies involving the SC and peelers or escorts or puck bunnies. Anybody that went to nightclubs or hotspots here could tell stories about what those Oilers had been up to.

For all of my life celebrities could do anything they like. People like Perry are paying for that. Was never right to use fame to bed anybody but these players were socialized to believe it was OK. just saying.

Its always odd to me that somebody like Gene Simmons never faced the music. Never. Despite so many assaults. Or that people like Jimmy Page who knowingly slept with minors for years was never convicted for it.

Seems so selective which people are charged, and which are not. Or which people have good enough lawyers to avoid conviction.

Ecstatic to have the worm on the team. A player you absolutely hate to see play against the team, but absolutely adore him if he's on your team. A key veteran who knows what it takes to win and hates to lose. I don't know exactly who will be his regular line mates, but I'm hoping Holloway will be one and gets a chip on his shoulder learning from Perry.

Welcome to the Oilers, Corey!
(Also eat shit Nick Kypreos, you salty little bitch acting like Perry had no suitors aside from Edmonton)

I always thought we were missing a dude on the bench like this. Yelling and getting people engaged. I remember earlier in the season it was against Dallas and the Stars started to falter and Benn stood up and started bellowing on the bench. They immediately turned their game around. I thought wow that would be nice to have.

When the Oilers were losing the bench looked depressed. No one was yelling getting the team to wake up. I’m not insulting our leadership because they definitely lead with their actions but having a loud, vocal leader is definitely something we were missing.

The core were huddled at Center ice before start of 3rd period and obviously having a convo about making sure they get the W. Its there, but the bench could be more vocal. But another side is that it doesn't even have to be too vocal. Look back at Drai tapping his shoulder at Connor McDavid telling him its gonna be OK. Team has a lot of resolve to overcome.

Or the confidence / arrogance to just believe you can make a play / something happen. Expect Perry will bring that, just like how Kane brought that, McDrai have always had that and has noticeably rubbed off on Hyman / Foegel / McLeod.

I wonder if Perry was "ok" with the buyout knowing he's gonna get his choice of team to go on next
if the consequence is getting to leave a brutal dog fire team and get to play for a cup contender its not too bad at all. add in he will most likely file a grievance and get his money too its kinda perfect

and the experience of playing in big games a multitude of times in his career.

Again I’m not insulting our leadership. I know players want to run through a brick wall for McDavid. I’m also not saying they aren’t vocal.

I’m saying we were missing a loud, vocal leader on the bench who gets the boys fired up. Who will start barking on the bench and then probably go fight a dude if we look like shit.

No I get it. But premium teams lose games like this every day of the week. In an 82 game season its no biggy. The only thing I want to see is the club being more resilient against contender clubs in the playoffs. With guys like Perry added to the lineup this helps. I do think for the record the vocal or stable nature of Mike Smith or Duncan Keith was missing from the lineup as well. In the case of Keith though the leadership was too quiet and picked its spots.

In anycase sage help is a good thing to have around.
