- General Manager search. His beginning list had 36 people on it - now down to 12-13 people. Gretzky is part of that list.

Gretzky makes up candidates 1-12, with MacT making up candidate 13.

This is probably how Nicholson is going to make his selection :

36 candidates on a list slimmed down to 12 - without doing any interviews.
Wonder how many people told Nicholson to scratch their names off his stupid list immediately.
I have zero confidence in Nicholson being the guy to hire next GM.

Does this indicate that MacT's job is safe because the Condors are over performing?
That's going to make some people's head's explode.

Hitch is going to slide into a nice comfy chair in the job for life club. We all knew that.

I think what Nicholson said about MacT is complete horse***t! What this tells me is that MacTs job is safe and he might very well be considered for the GM position.

I find it really hard to believe MacT has anything to do with the Condors success. If anything, he is most likely one of the few shot callers the Oilers have when it comes to their player personnel decisions; not so much the Condors.

I've been an Oiler fan all my life but I am so close to being done with this team if they can't rid themselves of these sad sack of losers.

The quote about MacTavish is like they put his name on the most successful thing in the organization to take the heat off him. He does a lot of scouting, both amateur and professional, and he's been down in Bakersfield before. But as far as "overseeing" the Condors, what does he do?

This organization is so deceitful to its fans and it all starts at the top with Katz. What I think is currently happening is MacT is the main shot caller at the moment. Keith Gretzky is still beneath him and Bob Nicholson and Daryl Katz are perfectly fine with MacT acting as the Player of Hockey Operations without anyone outside of management knowing this! His title prior to Chiarelli being fired was Vice-President already.

Thats my read on it as well. Frankly the Condors success is a bit surprising. I mean with MacT supposedly in charge, and a coach that everyone on this board wanted fired after last year running the bench down there ... how in the world are they doing this well? Not like they’re loaded with blue chip prospects either.

Lol ... imagine if Katz and Nicholson made MacT the assistant under Keith. Would that be a promotion or a demotion for Craig? It’s so hard to keep track of all the stuff he does for the team.
t's like any hiring. You have a pool of candidates you are interested in but you trim them down to the ones you actually interview.
When have the Oilers done things ‘like any hiring’? I suspect it was more like Nicholson called a few people and they told him to scratch their names off right f***ing now.

- He is open to adding a real number 1 dman but thinks defence is the strength in the organization. He would be willing to package assets but I didn’t get the impression that was likely

Hahahahahaha

Book that bottom 5 finish as soon as one dman goes down.

The Canucks are building something special and are an entertaining team to watch.

MacTavish could be a reason for some of the success the Condors have had. The problem is that our AHL team has been a failure for years, and MacTavish has been a part of that as well. Does one good year resolve him of that? Maybe Woodcroft is the main reason that group has had more success? Or maybe its just the fact that they have better players on the farm team than they have due to better scouting (doesnt mean it will translate to the NHL)?

Its honestly hard to know because we dont know what influence people like MacTavish, Howson, Green, Scott, Sutter etc have on the franchise and where it begins and stops. If those people have had any say on the pro-scouting side of things, its a fireable offense in my eyes, because it has been very bad for many years, including this year. I think the organization would be better if people had specific roles, one assistant GM for AHL, one assistant GM for NHL, director of amateur scouting, and then branch off from there. All these (vice) presidents, and director titles dont really mean anything, its such a generic title.

Someone like Woodcroft I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, this is his first year as an AHL coach and Bakersfield has had the most success it has in a long time. We have heard nothing but positive things.

If all the season ticket holders cancel then the team folds or, more likely is relocated. It’s a business, if it loses all its customers it’s done. Be careful what you wish for. It’s season ticket holders that subsidize the product you are a fan of, you are a fan of the Oilers right?

I honestly don't really care if they leave Edmonton at this point. If it got rid of the OBC and the Katz ownership, I'd happily just start following the team wherever it ended up. There is no price I'm not willing to pay to rid ourselves of the cancer that is Katz and the OBC.

can one one clarify any comments if he was asked about the oilers analytics department, A few tweets are suggesting the oilers do not use analytics as we currently know it.
