I realize this is a discussion board so I'll continue to enjoy the banter but just so we're clear, Jiricek isn't getting moved by CBJ. Finally a potential #1 RHD in the system...20 years old... unhappy because he's been jerked around a bit (stupid on CBJ part but not unheard to ride a shuttle as a 20 something trying to crack the NHL)... not getting moved. I don't understand CBJ motivation for the watching, shuttle, get a place, go back to Cleveland, you're not ready, play 20 min, play well, go watch from the pressbox, go back to Cleveland... routine. But at this point, that is the CBJ way.

I said I would give Broberg this season before passing judgement on his NHL abilities. At this point his development has been somewhat stunted by injuries and other things out of his control. It usually takes Dmen D+4/5 to really show their worth. If he earns a call up in the 2nd half and shows more than he has at the NHL level, he might make a believer. FTR, I supported the Oilers taking him in that draft.

At this point, I’m sure most people would say that Broberg is a disappointment, based solely on his draft position. He has looked OK as a prospect but not as a top 10 pick of the draft. He has looked great in the AHL so far this year but, IMHO, a solid NHL second pairing Dman is his ceiling (this is not a bad thing). Realistically, he’s going to be a 3rd pair D, with potential 2D upside later in his career.

Jiricek has looked great… well ahead of the curve. He currently holds significantly more value than Broberg.

There is no world in which the Oilers are replacing a guy with 750 NHL games who plays 20 minutes a night against tough comp, with a kid who has like 40 NHL games.
You forgot this is Hockeys Future where prospect reports are like porn to teenage boys

Take off the oil stained glasses for once. Your defence sucks and a 16 game stretch against shitty teams doesn't change the fact the same dgroup was 3-15. If Broberg who most on your board shit all over before one stretch in the AHL can't supplant Kulak in his D+5 season then chances are he's one of many who excel in the AHL and can't hack it higher up.

Our record since adding Ekholm to the D core with him actually in the lineup is 47-16-2. A .738 win percentage. He was injured to start the year missed training camp and didn't look anywhere near his current play when he first got back into the lineup. Probably the biggest single reason for the 2-9-1 start.

Even removing the 16 game streak entirely the record is still almost a .650 win percentage.

The Oilers beat the Flyers, Rangers, Maple Leafs, Flames, Kraken, Sharks, Devils and Blue Jackets in that stretch. Why have the Canucks lost to those shitty team's?

Broberg shouldn't even be in the AHL at D+5 for a top 10 pick. And he's looked bad every time he's in the NHL. Played 10 NHL games this season. 0-0-0 with -2. Wow... Amazing!

It's his fault the defense has been extremely healthy? NO.

And the games he did play, especially with Bouchard on the 3rd pair, they were dominant. You're just being a d!ck.

It's the NHL that has little interest in Broberg. He hasn't shown the ability of an NHL level player in the 5 seasons since he's been drafted. Including this one.

That is completely FALSE. There's been reports of GM's asking KH about Broberg and their interest. You don't know WTF you're talking about and you STFU.

Broberg has had some good play but over the years, he has had some opportunity and not grabbed it. Regardless of what anyone here thinks about Broberg, he ISN'T worth Jiricek.

He is kind of right, and kind of wrong. There has been reported interest in Broberg. Always teams willing to give a shot to a former 1st rounder. The fact that Broberg has proved very little at the NHL level is true.

Hahaha. Got a good laugh out of this.

Broberg has been a disappointment at every step of his development right up until today. About 96% of oilers fans admit this. And the other 4% are guys like you.

I mean except for his most recent step of development which is right now, where he’s dominating AHL competition.

i feel like the tune out of the oilers fan base during the weak start to the season was the complete opposite. ceci (and bouch) was deemed a must go piece.

from an outsider pov it looks like he is more of a complementary player, who looks good, when the team looks good. on the other hand he can't make a difference when things turn against your team. so in my book definitely a player you could and ideally would improve on.
A lot of Oilers had awful starts. Ceci wasn't really one of them, but he is the piece most likely to be used to improve. It would take a deal like the Ekholm deal with a RD to make it worth trading him though.

Seriously, how are some fans so clueless? 2 dudes are at the same spot in their careers despite 2,5 years difference between them but 1 for 1 trade is fair because one is lefty and the other is righty?
He is a rangy 22 year old defenseman. Some of them take time to develop.
Yes and Jiricek has 3 years of the time you mentioned while Broberg is inching closer to the bust territory by the minute.

Also lmao at you trying to depict pushing Desharnais out of the lineup as such a monumental task.

Broberg is a bust. This thread is laughable!

Broberg at best could become a bottom pairing NHL dman. Jiricek at worst would become bottom pairing.

Desharnais has been fantastic this year and is a RHD. I'm not sure you understand hockey or the importance of handedness on the ice in a D pair.

He has been so fantastic that Ceci still plays 5 minutes per game more. And he is the one you want to replace with Jiricek

You should also explain the importance of handiness to Avs, Panthets or Stars since they are obviously so awful with two righties on the roster.

He's a third pairing defenseman that has great chemistry with his partner in Kulak. I'm not sure what you're trying to say, the Oilers have won 16 games in a row lol. I'm not overly concerned about the roster. I also do not want Jiricek to replace Ceci going into a playoff series this year lol.

That's what I'm saying, Broberg isn't better than third pairing D who plays less than 15 minutes per night. It's pretty simple, I thought.

The best analogy I read was from a Columbus fan on another thread that said... Picture a player you do not want your team to lose no matter what... That's the cost of jiricek.

I plan on stealing this line for other trade proposal.lol
