Hey AF, the Flames' website is stating Ortio has been rock solid as of late? If true, that's awesome to hear! Just a slow start at the beginning of the season?

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=742952&navid=DL|CGY|home

You can view all of Ortio's starts on Adirondack's website (won't open for me at the moment so I can't provide a link). There's also a useful breakdown by month - he had a poor October but a very good November and December (thus far).

Basically, you can't take Ortio's current stats at face value. A subpar first month (when the whole team was struggling) makes things look a lot worse than they actually are.

Edit: Link (website's fnally working - it was the AHL's website, not Adirondack)

I don't see many AHL game. I see Poireir is doing well producing. Does he make a good push to make the team next year?

Tonight:

Preview from adirondackflames.com:
Tonight’s Game:

The Adirondack Flames play host tonight to the Utica Comets as they look to exercise their demons against the AHL’s top team with a matchup at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Last Game: The Adirondack Flames came up just short of their sixth straight win as they fell 3-2 to the Rochester Americans in a seven round shootout on Friday evening at Blue Cross Arena. Adirondack netminder Brad Thiessen was the star for the visitors, as he made 47 saves on 49 Rochester shots on goal. David Wolf and Garnet Hathaway had the goals for the Flames in the losing effort. Despite the shootout loss, the Flames earned a point that gave them seven out a possible eight points on their four game road trip.

Head-To-Head:

Tonight is the fifth regular season meeting of 2014 between the Flames and Comets. Adirondack has lost all four regular season meetings to date against Utica, in addition to two pre-season contests. The Flames are 0-2 both on home ice at the Glens Falls Civic Center as well as on the road. The two North Division rivals will play seven more times after tonight, next on 12/26 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Scouting the Comets: The Comets have had a very strong start to the season, as their 41 points have them in first place in not just the Western Conference, but the American Hockey League as a whole. Cal O’Reilly has been the leading scorer for Utica to date with 25 points (3-22-25) and Brandon DeFazio’s nine goals (9-6-15) has him leading in that category. Swedish native Joacim Eriksson has become the mainstay in net for Utica with Jacob Markstrom’s recent absence from the lineup. Eriksson has amassed 11 wins, a 2.28 goals against average, and a .918 save percentage as the Swede has been in net for 18 of Utica’s 28 games this season.

Flames Quick Hits:

With a 15-5-0-1 record thus far during November and December, the Adirondack Flames have closed the gap at the top of the North Division to just three points short of the Utica Comets. The Flames now have the third most points in the entire Western Conference and are tied with both Utica and the Rockford IceHogs for the most wins in the conference and the second most in the AHL, with 18.

The Adirondack Flames have a new face at the top of their scoring charts, as winger Emile Poirier has vaulted into the team lead in points. Boosted by his two-goal effort in Wednesday’s win over Chicago, Poirier now has 16 points (8-8-16) on the season as he moved past Ben Hanowski for the most on the team. Poirier’s totals also have him amongst the AHL’s leaders for first year players. Poirier’s eight goals have him tied for fifth amongst rookie skaters, while his 16 points are tied for 12th.

Adirondack netminder Joni Ortio has been at the top of his game recently. The Finnish native, courtesy of five straight wins and 11 wins from his last 13 decisions, is currently in a tie for the AHL’s lead in wins (14) with Manchester’s Jean-Francois Berube. Over his past 13 games, Ortio has compiled a .939 save percentage and a 1.73 goals against average, in addition to two shutouts.

And tonight is also great night for the kids in Glens Falls as it is their Teddy Bear Toss tonight!
