Tonight's game marks the first time since 1999 when the Adirondack Red Wings became a dormant franchise that a Red Wings affiliate has entered the Glens Falls Civic Center. Both the Flames and Griffins enter tonight coming off losses, the Griffins fell 4-3 in overtime against the Rochester Americans and the Flames saw their 9 game winning streak come to an end as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the hated Comets.

The Adirondack Flames also celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice victory over the hated Russians in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics.

Score was 0-0 after 20 minutes.

Arnold scores less than a minute into the 2nd to make it 1-0. Poirier with the lone assist.
Callahan ties it up like 20 seconds later.

Gooch draws an interference call just a few moments later.

Flames lose to Hamilton, 5-3 last night.

Setoguchi with a goal and assist. Hanowski with his tenth. Poirier and Culkin pick up assists.

I think soon Culkin will be mentioned in the same sentence as Wotherspoon and Sieloff when we talk of our defensive prospects. He's starting to get on their level right now IMO.

Out of interest is it because Culkin played in the Q? Seems generally accepted to be the lower of the CHL leagues.

More from kulak being the go to guy on a weak team putting up equal numbers. I also thought he had looked better at rookie camps.

I'd honestly consider Kulak our top D prospect right now (yes, above Wotherspoon and Sieloff) because of his offensive skill, but maybe Culkin can jump into that top spot if he keeps his play up.

AF, I know we have argued a lot recently on this board but I really respect your opinions about the Baby Flames. Who do you think is going to have the biggest impact on the squad when they get sent down once Calgary gets some of its forwards back from injury?

BINGHAMTON SENATORS HOST THEIR ANNUAL TEDDY BEAR TOSS NIGHT
kac.at_.jpg

Here is a little piece of trivia. When was the last time a Calgary Flames Affiliate faced an affiliate of the Ottawa Senators? The answer is March 21st, 2003 in Binghamton during the inaugural season of the Binghamton Senators. That last meeting saw the Saint John Flames drop the game 5-3, in their four meetings in 2002-03 the Senators swept the Flames outscoring them 14-8.

To continue this little flashback in the 2002-03 season the Flames leading point getter was the legendary Robert Dome! Although that season did see several players that were apart of the 2003-04 cinderella club; including Matthew Lombardi, Chuck Kobasew, Oleg Saprykin, Dave Lowry, Steve Montador, Jordan Leopold and Mike Commodore.

Both the Flames and Senators are coming off wins last night, as the Flames held on to beat the reigning Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars 3-2 and the Senator put the boots to Rochester in a 4-1 victory. On the season the Flames sit sixth in the west with a 13-9-1 record, while the Senators are 10th in the east with a 10-8-3 record.

Ben Hanowski currently leads the Adirondack Flames in both goals (10) and points (13). When it comes to playmaking defensemen Tyler Wotherspoon and Ryan Culkin are tied for the club lead in assists (10). When it comes to measuring truculence rookie defenseman Pat Sieloff leads the way in penalty minutes (40).

For the baby Sens the offense begins and ends with defenseman Chris Wideman. Wideman leads the Senators in goals (11) and points (22), he is also tied for the leads in assists (11) with former Calgary Flame defenseman Aaron Johnson. Even though the Sens & Flames average a similar number of penalty minutes per game it is Darren Kramer that racks up the PIM (88) for the Senators.

The Flames will likely start Brad Thiessen tonight and save Ortio for the 3rd game of this back to back to back situation. Thiessen is 3-4-0 on the year with a 2.63 GAA and .919 SV%. For the Senators their #1 goaltender Andrew Hammond has been recalled by the big club leaving backup Scott Greenham as the de facto starter, but with the Sens also playing 3 in 3 we could see rookie goaltender Chris Driedger make his third career AHL start.

In summary I would like to conclude:

GO FLAMES!!

always had kulak slightly above Culkin, wonder if Culkin could be the real deal.

I always got them mixed up. They seemed to be kind of the same guy. Offensively gifted Dmen, drafted in later rounds, long term development plans.

Turns out Culkin might be kind of the real deal here. Who knows, these Dmen are always hard to peg... But if Calgary gets one of the three: Wotherspoon, Sieloff or Culkin to the NHL as an impact player, I would be really impressed... means our to three 'home grown' talents have nothing to do with the first round (Brodie, Gio and one of the three), and that makes me happy.

One thing I'm totally stumped on, is Wolf and BvB are having really solid NA professional seasons (Wolf especially before getting hurt was looking at a .5 ppg pace & putting up them PIMs); I mean, I feel both deserve some look at the 4th line in the NHL (I love the idea of the wrecking ball, with grit, but with some decent mitts)... but our forward depth is off the charts, especially bottom 6 wingers.
