Mauer is a good, under the radar pick.

Thought Trout would last longer but heck hes going to be an easy top 5 pick in 5 years at the rate hes going.

I had a strong feeling if I didn't take him here he wouldn't be around 40 picks later. Last year he went 180 and I figured he's probably increased in value since then. Also interesting was how Hartnett and Mauer went 165 and 170 respectively last year and this year they went 161 and 162 respectively. That's pretty consistent value for them haha.

Biggio is one of the only modern players I can think of that had such a bizarre career as a dual-position player.

He was a Silver Slugger Award winner at catcher, playing there for several seasons before making the successful switch to second-base, and then in the latter third of his career playing as the Astros centre-fielder.

I wasn't aware of Biz Mackey's double-eligibility at SS.

Such a weird combo, C/SS.....you never see that anymore.

He played all around the infield at times it seems, but C/IF seemed weirder :) Being that he's highly regarded as the gold standard for NEL catchers on the defensive side of the ball, I'm guessing he won't be shifted around in Sioux City.

I remember midway through Pudge's career (Rodriguez of course) there was talk of moving him to shortstop or something to protect his body from breaking down. It never actually happened though obviously (moving to SS that is).

MLBN is showing an Expos special at 9 ET. MLB is studying raising the strike zone. Google it. Gotta pick up my son from school.

Or is it 8 hours from when Wrigley picked?

I really don't care, but for those that want a speedy draft, I'm ready to pick.

People really should start sending lists.

I see what you mean. He's technically been on the clock for over 8 hours as of 4 or 5 minutes ago. I suppose rules are rules, but its not my draft.

Yeah. I tried asking Pwn, but he's really just a puppet Commissioner at this point. I think Wrigley is really running the show.

Meh. I'm making my pick. About to head into a two hour meeting, so don't want to hold up the draft any longer.

wow... no love for andy pettitte and his insane playoff/career... interesting.

I really wouldn't consider a 3.81 postseason ERA an insane playoff career. His record setting win total is more a combination of right team/right era. There are so many better post season pitchers that just pitched less games since there was only the World Series, not ALDC/ALCS/WS.

Pettitte was a very good #2 or #3 starter for a very long time with a couple of number one starter type seasons tossed in (1997 and 2005 are two specific seasons I'll grant him), but his counting totals are more of a reflection of the quality of Yankees teams that he played for than his own individual greatness. I think that there are quite a few comparable starters available at this point in the draft honestly.

There's actually a couple of guys who won more regular-season games and had lower playoff ERA's still kicking around.
