Tbf, while it was a bad decision, 2014 was the first year Hedman actually had a good season. He was struggling before then and I guess Sweden wanted more proven players.

It’s really strange that they picked him so high... it doesn’t seem to fit with most of their other picks.

They spent a third rounder on Twarynski. So it wasn’t that that surprising. They generally tried their hardest to get on base in their minds in those 2-4 rounds generally. Then they’d normally take some swings in the 5-7 round range.

Pretty clear they got caught with their pants down with the run on D in the late 1st-early 2nd round. It was predetermined that they were going to pick a defenseman at that spot.
