I'd take a 2nd for Puljujarvi in a heart beat. Guy doesn't have the hustle or hockey IQ to be anything more than a 4th liner.
And Petan is a better player.I'd rather keep Pulujarvi. Petan doen't do much for Edmonton, and guys like him are routinely available for mid round picks.
He could flourish in another team that doesn't bench him after one mistake.
Nobody would pay 4m for Puljujarvi rn lol. So that's moot. Not a chance. You've got what, $8.5 million to sign 8 or nine players... with only 14 signed so far... and you'd match a $4 million offer sheet?
Donato + JFKA Providence Bruin forward for him given that the Oilers have been scouting the P.Bruins and Gretzky drafted most of them makes a lot of sense then.

If Puljujarvi wasn't a 4th overall pick he wouldn't even be sniffing NA hockeyWell that's certainly a hot take. It's so hard to tell because he never gets into the lineup, even with injuries. High potential 20 year olds aren't traded for guys who are nearing the end of their development cycle and can't get into the lineup.
Maybe. If Petan wasn't 16th overall pick he would be buried in the AHL by now. The fact is that not long ago, both of these players were deemed good prospects. One was seen as having much higher upside, is younger, and should have more development left in him, while the other was never seen as having the level of upside, has developed for longer, and has yet to show that he can play in the NHL. Basically, both of these guys aren't NHL players right now, and only a fool would pass on the younger and less developed on in favour of the older one at this point. Petan is looking at a career in the AHL if he doesn't make his mark in a big hurry. Pulujarvi might be as well, but has more time to grow and prove the "he's a bust" naysayers wrong. If Puljujarvi wasn't a 4th overall pick he wouldn't even be sniffing NA hockey

Puljujarvi hasn't shown any insane skill since before he was drafted. He doesn't get to play to his strengths cause he doesn't even try to use them. Anytime he has the puck in the attacking zone he decides to either shoot it high and wide or make a bad pass to a covered forward and it turns into a giveaway. Its the opposite, the problem was that he was picked 4th by a GM who probably is the worst GM the last decades in the NHL and thought that high draft pick meant that you got someone that you just could rush to the NHL and play on a top line instantly. It haven't been like that for ages in the NHL. If you take away the McDavids and the likes, there really is no significant difference between a top 3-4 pick in a draft and a top 15 pick. Its so obvious that PC didn't have an eye for hockey. The obsession he had with top picks. Ryan Strome, Griffin Reinhart and co. Rushing Pulju.
He is a 20 y/o insanely gifted, albeit very raw, hockey player who is already on his 3rd year in the NHL. There is something very very wrong with that. You don't set your fundamental hockey game in the NHL. Its 2019.
I think Kevin Hayes is a great comparison. Did anyone see how Kevin Hayes looked at times his rookie season in the NHL? Those long legs trying to keep up with the speed of the NHL. Kevin Hayes was 22 y/o at the time. This year he has been great for NYR. Imagine if someone threw Hayes on the ice in the NHL -- four years earlier. He never played for Boston College. Spent those years skating around on a 4th line in Chicago instead. He would surely have been ruined.
To develop you need to be able to play to your strength. How often has Puljujärvi been allowed the play to his strengths the last 2.5 years? Had the puck with time in the attacking zone? And so forth. Of course he isn't developing, heck even maintaining, those areas of this game when he never get to use them in game situations, and as to the game he is asked to play, well being a 3rd-4th line checker have never been part of what you expect him to thrive at.

If Pulju was this potential elite high level forward he would of shown something. Signs of his hockey IQ, his shot wouldn't be highly inaccurate. He looks nothing like he did when he was drafted. Looks a lot like Yakupov. Relied on his raw ability to dominate lower league's and just didn't have the hockey IQ to ever figure it out.
I meant offer him 2m, and get him for what ends up being a 2nd round pick in 2020 if they dont match. Why would the Canes trade a good young winger for one who is...not so good?
Ahh yes the whole the org is 100% at fault and no fault to the player themselves. Pulju doesn't work hard, period. He puts in zero effort and makes the wrong play 9/10 times. If he was just a young guy in over his head you would see effort or some sign of life. And that is the reason you don't try to develop a kid in the NHL when he is not ready. How hard is that to get? It pisses me off. Hockey IQ??? Rush the kids to the NHL -- kids that aren't even remotely ready -- give them zero support on the ice, and then trash their hockey IQ when they fail. WTF.
Did EDM have the resources to develop Pulju when they drafted him? No, not even remotely. He should have been traded at the spot or left in Finland. Please, can nobody realize this around that team???
Pat Laine is a bust by now if he is drafted by EDM. No hockey IQ.
Donato + JFK
Could be a win-winThat's worth a long look to be honest. High price tag but isn't that the point of these discussions?
Could be a win-win
Pulju could turn it around with proper development and be that beast 2rw you guys need.
JFK could be a the all around right handed 3c we need along with Donato as the finishing 2lw for Nuge.
