Why on earth would he sign an offer sheet with Colorodo? Even if they offer him more money his endorsements would dry up completely in Toronto and would make less overall. He would be moving away from the area he spent his entire life growing. Leaving all his friends and family. It makes no sense by any accord. He is probably the least logical player out of all RFAs to be targeted or to sign an offer sheet. Kapanen or Johansson make tonnes of sense and is very plausible. Marner none.
Not a wet dream for me at all. Detroit's picks are too high to make it worth while. Colorado is the obvious choice.
So Leafs offer Marner 9 to 10 mill tops and another team sends him an offer sheet for 12 mill and he should balk at that extra 2 to 3 mill because he might be homesick or lose an endorsement or two?
Really think Marner won't get an endorsement with his new team?
Come on now?!
LOLYou can't be this obtuse can you? You think the endorsement money in other cities is comparable to that he makes in Toronto? I know you want him to sign an offer sheet for whatever dumbass reason but its not happening. There is 0 chance.
As an Oilers fan I'd happily offersheet one of Kapanen/Johnsson/Labanc or someone like that for only a 2nd rounder.
But that wouldn't quite be as stupid as signing a UFA to an $11M/year contract when you've got Nylander, Matthews, and Marner all coming up, right?
Hmm...

It's almost like 2 playmaking RFA wingers are good contract comparables while an RFA winger and a UFA goalscoring center aren't good contract comparables at all.
I would offer sheet both Johnson and Kapanen at 4.1 mill each.
Is that possible since we have 2 seconds, or not, because only team picks count and you cant have more than 1 Habs pick per round?
Yup, Kapanen and Johansson should be targets for the Oilers and a number of teams!
Sp who is this Johansson? The Leafs don't have a player with that name. Why on earth would he sign an offer sheet with Colorodo? But say we pull some trades and end up with 3 2nd round pics in 2020. Does that mean potentially we can offer sheet 3 players for 4 million$ each because we have 3 pics in the second round to meet compensation requirements, or only the teams 2nd round pic counts towards offer sheet compensation and not the pics acquired in trades? The draft pick compensation is for 2020 and beyond. The 2019 Draft will already be over when offer sheets take place

Ya like the Oilers have cap space to knowing pay a player above market value to get in the offer sheet gameAs an Oilers fan I'd happily offersheet one of Kapanen/Johnsson/Labanc or someone like that for only a 2nd rounder.
It has to be your own pickBut say we pull some trades and end up with 3 2nd round pics in 2020. Lol, it has nothing to do with UFA and RFA or positions, it has to do with cap space.
You can't say Colorado would be stupid to throw $11M at Marner with Rantanen up while not conceding that the same logic dictates it was stupid for Toronto to throw $11M at Tavares with Nylander, Matthews and Marner up. If it's dumb for one, it's dumb for the other.
Funny thing is, Colorado could throw $22M at Marner and Rantanen and still be in better cap shape than Toronto.
Cant do it. The picks need to be your own. You could do one for 4.1 and the other at 4.3. So the cost would be 2nd for one and 1st and 3rd for the other.I would offer sheet both Johnson and Kapanen at 4.1 mill each.

Not as lucrative. Let's say he goes and signs an offer sheet with a baseball basketball and football team in the states. Marner is a nobody in the big picture. An offensive lineman would be more popular and knownSo Leafs offer Marner 9 to 10 mill tops and another team sends him an offer sheet for 12 mill and he should balk at that extra 2 to 3 mill because he might be homesick or lose an endorsement or two?

ISnt it based on the cap ceiling
But what is the Cap ceiling? They can't possibly set RFA compensation tiers before they set the cap limits.
Nope.
RFA compensation amounts are based on the average league-wide player salary for the prior season.
Average player salary and cap ceiling have a correlation but they don’t change at identical rates.
