If Hamilton is out for the opening games of this series, even just one or two of them, that really moves the needle as far as our chances are concerned.

I know we have RHD depth, but unless this turns out to be less serious than it looks, we're missing a good first-pair's worth of defensemen before the series even begins. No amount of depth is going to make up for that.

I disagree that we have RHD depth of Hamilton is out. We would have both Vatanen and TVR playing above their heads and then not another natural RH shot in the lineup on the 3rd pair.

Watching the NBCSN Eastern Conference preview and Burke picked us to win in 4. I think that he's only the 2nd talking head that I have heard to do so. They did give us a sweet preview. It feels surreal to be watching a sports preview program again.

Not really a disagreement... I'm saying exactly that we have RHD depth under normal conditions and can technically fill the roster spots, but we're really going to feel the loss of Hamilton. Losing either him or Pesce is one thing, losing them both is enough of a downgrade to change the way we look as a team (as we saw just before COVID).

Just rewound and listened again. Burke said 'I don't think they are good enough to beat the Rangers. Think this will be a 4 game series'.

Yeah losing your 1A or 1B defenceman as well as your rock solid #3 who is a capable #2... both on the right side. That’s gonna hurt anyone. Skej, Vats, Gardiner, TVR need to step the f*** up big time otherwise the Rangers top 6 will absolutely rag doll us

Losing Hamilton hurts, there's no denying it. We know what this team looked like without him, and that was inconsistent...the kind of team that can lose 3 of 5 games to NYR.

The X factor is Vatanen, because he's a quality defenseman, and we haven't seen what this team can do when he's on the ice. Presumably, he was seen as a fill-in for Hamilton, so now we'll see how well GMBC mapped out that trade. It wouldn't be prudent to assume the Canes will be better than they showed without Hamilton, but you can hope.

And if they lose the play-in series, they'll win the lottery and we'll get some super stud. Bank on it.

Not ideal, but next man up. Hopefully we'll see him soon. Good news is he's been skating longer than just about anyone during his recovery, so hopefully he'll hit the ground running whenever we see him. In spite of all the negativity that surely will follow, we can still win this.

So, this is the likely Game 1 lineup based on recent practices:

Svechnikov-Aho-Teravainen
Niederreiter-Trocheck-Necas
Dzingel-Staal-Williams
Foegele-Martinook-McGinn

Slavin-Vatanen
Skjei-Edmundson
Gardiner-Van Riemsdyk

Mrazek
Reimer

As you all know, I'd rather have Fleury over Eddy, but it's Brindy, so you know that he has to fit Eddy somewhere. I will say that the 1st and 3rd defensive pairs look really good. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of disappointment about Geekie not in the lineup, but to me, a productive and motivated Dzingel is a good thing, not a bad thing. Brindy being willing to play him on the 3rd line over Foegele is a really good sign that he's been impressed with his progression post-resumption.
