I don’t even understand the hate here. And if the guys did any research whatsoever he would have noticed we have like 50million in cap space in two years.

Same thing happened after the Leafs signed Tavares. Suddenly people start questioning the contract as if their team wouldn't add a star for nothing but cap space if they had the chance.

In free agency you target the stars or go bargain hunting. It's the middle class players signed for too long that turn into anchors.

Because Hayes has a bad free agent contract, you feel better about having the highest paid winger in the game? He only needs to score about 40 more points next season to be worth it.

He has outscored Hayes by about 40 more points every year of his career. And Panarin wont by the highest paid winger by next summer, potentially even this summer, one of Rantanen or Marner might surpass him. Hall probably will when he gets his new contract.

People think Marner is worth as much and Panarin puts up the same numbers without needing Tavares and while being far and away the #1 shutdown target on his team. If you take a look at your team you'll probably find 11 million worth of garbage quite easily, even the Blues had 11 million tied up in a backup goalie and 4th line winger this year.

Rangers are still technically in a "rebuild" they might now have Panarin for 7 years and Trouba soon for however many, but they're only 25 and 27 respectively, plenty of good years left there. and they didn't trade away any of their prospects who were part of the rebuild, and actually added 2 in Kakko and Fox.
