Ah. The ole "No hockey insider knows anything about anything in hockey" thing that happens here. Got it.

Thanks!
Oh the opposite of "All hockey insiders know every little thing there is to know"

Eklund is referred to as a hockey insider......

So we think Dubas will cave yes?

The Leafs have such a good shot at the cup this year. One they might not have next year when Marner and Matthews sign their deals. Because right now they have two players worth double digit cap hits on ELCs.

Better to sign Nylander, take your best shot at the cup, then deal with the consequences later.

Disagree with this theory for winning cups. The best shot at a cup comes from being good for multiple years, not taking an all-in shot. It's too hard and there's too much out of your control when it comes to the cup.

That said, if the reports about being between $6.6 million and $6.9 million are correct then it's not going to be a massive issue if Dubas is the one who moves. At this point they're both likely standing strong because it doesn't really make much of a difference if it's signed today or Saturday.

Except that it might get him traded but I think that's what he really wanted all along. This BS about wanting a contract that makes him untradeable is crazy. Why in the world would they think that a team, any team, would be ok with that? Most teams aren't in the business of giving millions of dollars away and certainly not just so a player can never be traded. That would be insane.

The Hawks traded Brian Campbell, so no contract is too rich to be traded.

Are you sure? Nobody can say for sure what's going on anymore but the timing of the moves are interesting

HCRBA talking about Darling being waived "We milked that for as long as we could, just to be fair to everybody. ... Having three just doesn't set up very well. It's hard to practice and hard for them to get their reps."

Zykov just appears to have fallen out of the rotation with no chance of seeing the ice.

Friedman said that was his opinion.

This is crunch time, the Leafs are bluffing. Doubt they trade him right now if they can’t agree to a deal. A trade at the draft makes more sense. Hastily trading Nylander for whatever you can get right now isn’t smart.
It's smart if those players you get back can help you win a cup.

Nylander will not be traded right now. Not a chance. No way Dubas is giving Willy away for the garbage spare part offers we have been hearing about.

If he does not sign with Toronto within 2 days, he is going to sit out!

It's unrelated

I'd hesitate to say it's completely unrelated, with rumors of TOR circling back to teams on a trade and Pesce being cleared for contact today, but, more than likely, you're right. The time had certainly come to waive Darling. The conspiracy theorist in me though, finds the timing of waiving Zykov very odd, especially considering news from Friedman a week or so ago that other teams may be willing to trade for him. Risking losing Z for nothing doesn't seem very smart, unless you need to make room for some acquisitions, etc...:sarcasm:

If he gets traded, the new team still has to sign him. The trade window is closing real fast, it has to be a sign and trade if it goes down at this point. Seems like it’s sign or sit.

I won't disagree with you on that but the timing like I said is interesting. They could have waited a few days to make these moves also but because Carolina has been connected to the leafs/Nylander and we are in the final 48 hours it's definitely a possibility. Maybe it's just a coincidence but maybe not also....

Why would Carolina need to make room though? you would think their side would be trading away more players vs acquiring if Nylander is going their way. Or it's a 1 for 1 trade...and even then they wouldn't have to make room.

Well, TOR and CAR have been heavily scouting each other over the past few weeks. So I imagine any Nylander or other trade between the teams would involve multiple pieces from both sides.

Nylander+ for Slavin

:sarcasm:
Toronto entertains NO deal with CAR with Pesce as the piece coming back. Not even close value for Willy Nylander.

If CAR wants Nylander that bad, the price is Slavin straight up. Don't like it, too bad...you are not getting Nylander for anything less. If you want a young 22 yo stud, you are going to pay.

The play of Marner and Matthews certainly aren't helping this deal get done any faster.

I'm sure Dubas and the Leafs in general are ecstatic at the season Marner is having but you have to imagine that him seemingly getting 3 points every game lately is just reinforcing the need for Dubas to get Nylander on a bargain.

Sign him or trade him to the best D-man they can get.

With Willy's confidence in himself, I wonder if the ego in him is sick of always being called the third wheel. May like the idea of being the big show, not to mention playing center. Sometimes it works...sometimes you become Tracy McGrady.
