Yuna Kim losing by more than 5 points reeks of something fishy...

I wish this wasn't her last competition; shouldn't be the way she goes out.

Good. That means Korea can show the world its corruption prowess by giving an obviously inferior skater the gold medal.

Can't wait.

Every Olympics is like that though...
And the host country usually have an advantage.
The IOC is just a corrupt organization...
And I only watch the Games for the athletes.
Many of them give their best...
And they are not the ones at fault.

I honestly think she will keep her word and retire...
But who knows now?
It did not go according to script...
And she may come back for her home Olympics.

Along with being a top athlete...
She is also a brand now.
Can you imagine the money...
And status...
She would gain if she wins at her home Olympics?
Ka-ching.

Can't even count the number of time Taiwan has been screwed out of a medal in several Asian games.

It almost makes me want to expose myself to a lethal dose of gamma radiation and go hulk on the referees.

Believe me...
I understand how you feel.
I am half-Taiwanese...
And I know the bad blood between Taiwanese and Korean athletics.

For this Olympics...
The Koreans have it pretty bad already.
The whole team are basically in disarray...
Especially in men's short track.
It does not help that Ahn...
A guy they abandoned...
Is killing it for Russian.
If it is not for the women's team...
And Lee Sang-hwa for the long track sprint...
It will be even worst.
I actually kind of sympathize with them...
Since the Canadian short track team also had a bad Olympics...
But at least they have a gold and silver.

More than just athletics. There's just bad blood in general.

But I have my share of Korean friends and we always have a laugh about this.

That women's curling final was not a easy match.
Lawes on Jones' rink continued to miss shots...
And there was a point that Jones' team could have given up 4 points in the fifth end to be down 5-3.
However...
Sweden missed...
And only got 2...
And it became a 3-3 tie.
Then Jones missed the hammer in the 8th...
But Canada still scored one on a very close call...
And Sweden made a series of mistakes in the ninth...
To allow Canada to steal 2.
That finally sealed the game.

So obviously in Men's Curling and Hockey we have shots at Gold Medals. Any other Gold hopefuls for Canada at the tail end of the games here?

Womens ski cross and womens 1000m short track are the two best chances we have left.

Those two are very unpredicatable though.
Canadians could come up big...
Or they could be shutout altogether.

I honestly think there is an outside shot for a medal in the women's long track team pursuit.
Men's is an extremely long shot at a medal.
The 4 men bobsled also have an outside shot...
But it is slim.

Unpredictable or not they are the best chances we have.

Thompson and Serwa both are very good and have had the results before.

True...
But all I am saying is...
Do not count on these events.

Canada was favoured in the men's ski cross...
Only to come up empty handed.
Past results do not mean anything in the cross events.

The question was what events do we have legit gold medal chances in. Not what events are gold medal locks.

Ok.
I am slow again...
But I finally caught up to the ladies full skate.

Kim Yuna had a conservative program...
Played it safe...
Made one or two small mistakes...
And she herself is disappointed with her skate...
But I still think she won.
If not...
The results should be a lot closer.

I heard that judges graded her footwork to be level 3...
While Sotnikova is graded at level 4...
And that should be the other way around.
I like Kim's footwork a lot better than Sotnikova's.

Kurt Browning said that Sotnikova willed it...
And I completely agree.
Yes...
It was passionate...
And she got the crowd going with gestures...
And it was pretty clean...
But it was not better than Kim's skate.

Oh well...
It is what it is.

Watched Women's Ski Cross and I thought it was pretty rad. That was my first time watching freestyle skiing since Heil/Bilodeau in 2010 and I was really glad to see them pull through with 1 and 2.

Agreed, great event and an even better finish. Gotta love watching two BC girls finish with the gold and silver medals

The CBC website hasn't updated the medal standings yet but I assuming that puts us at 2nd with 8/10/4? I hope that we can pull away with men's curling and then overcome the Americans to get that shot on Sunday.

Yea, CBC just showed the updated standings putting Canada into 2nd. Hopefully Canada can go on a run of gold medals here during the final couple of days and catch Norway

Yeah...I didn't watch all of the curling, but that seemed like the worst match for the women's curling team. Earlier in the week, I thought Officer had been the weak part of the team, and both Lawes and Jones did a great job of cleaning things up. Yesterday, Lawes had a very weak game, but Officer made a lot of good shots (Jones missed a few, but was incredibly strong overall).

But yeah, it was Sweden's game to win, but the two shots they missed were significant misses. Still, a great job by Jones and her team - you don't go undefeated without being the best team, but also getting a little luck. They got their luck in the most important team.
