As a rather disappointed Laine -fan (I assume - only temporalily), I have to show some love to OVI now. Those PP goals, that's how it should be in Jets PP too, but because of miss-aligned sights and lack of proper feeding it doesn't work well currently.

The Grand Master showing (again/still) how it's done! No indications of Stanley cup hangover visible either! :thumbu::yo:

what in the **** did i just read?

Well seriously though a part of the job of being a coach is also being a shrink of some kind. Entering the mind of most players, understanding how they function, which strings should be pulled and which notes finetuned.

Even understanding their obvious and secret desires on and off the ice and playing on them is what good coaches do.

Its entirely possible that Trotz started his job in NY by having unusually long private and delicate conversations with each player while making the initial scan of their brain :)

Trotz underrated great strength was his ability to enter the soul of each player and to play the right melody on it. That can not be taught or barely.
This area of things is...maybe Trotz's biggest weakness as a coach. He's good at instilling work ethic/accountability/etc. in a team that needs it (see your Ovechkin example), but he seems to have that one simple message and nothing else.

Its not like the nearly the entire team has had tremendous growth under him.

Need a bottom six forward to produce and the team to figure out their defensive zone. Rangers played last night and Caps are making them look like world beaters.

He's a good coach, probably very good. He's just kind of a simpleton and was oblivious to most of that side of things (see 2017 vs. Pittsburgh for prime examples). It's OK.

He's good at creating stability and getting everyone bought in. But there doesn't seem to be any nuance beyond that.

Caps looked very aggressive in the last 5 mins of regulation. Didn't see that much the last few years in a tie game.

I guess he is the hero this city deserves. :)

This isn't good. We play like this against the team that can actually score and we get put to the sword. Need to tighten up, but there's a looong time yet to sort things out.
