Suzuki said the other day, he isnt worrying about scoring because he "been there done that" knows how to do it...he is trying to refine the defense side of his game right now he said....hence the lower goal output...

wanna see how bored of scoring he is?

i still find it wierd that he isn't producing much point or with less constancy then he previously was on owen sound, even if the guelph is currently a scoring machine.

If Montreal don't all but guarantee Poehling he will play with the Montreal Canadiens . He won't be leaving college to play in the AHL . Poehling still isn't signed by Montreal they can't treat him as a prospect like the might other prospects . He still has one year remaining in college after that if still not signed can become unrestricted . Montreal can't give him a reason not to sign if he feels he's not getting a real chance he won't sign .
Sign him towards the end of the season (game 72 or so) and promise some time during the playoffs if he proves hes ready.
That would be a very appealing move for Poehling. He plays in the NHL playoffs and burns one year.

Maybe he wants to finish his 4th year in college some players do . Montreal need to get him signed and not play games with this player .

Suzuki has looked great with the Storm. He is playing the wing, but creates offensive opportunities with whoever he plays with. They currently have a top 6 of Ratcliff, Entwhistle, Hawel, Schnarr, Tropochenko and Suzuki with Hillis on IR.

I think he will be a winger in the NHL, 20 goal scorer.

Man, I don't like the level of energy I see From Suzuki.
It's fine that he ignore the Empty net and helps a teammate, but the lack of energy or "motivation" seems really present in this kid.

AM I the only one since the Camp that is scared from his Motivation ?

If there is really an issue with motivation or anything else, wouldn't the Habs have someone looking into it by now? I'm sure they have someone who makes the rounds, gets reports from various sources in order to stay on top. I don't know that we can judge motivation based on one play or just highlights.

Did I read somewhere that the habs wanted him playing center this year?

That was before he was traded. With his previous team, he did play some center but was alternated with RW. Since the trade, we've also seen him on the LW.

In any case, won't matter much now with the season in its later stages and Suzuki either headed to Laval or making the team out of training camp.

Oh I thought you meant the habs management could send people to the SHL as they pleased.

I'm not sure if there are rules against it, but for rich teams it might make sense to outright own a European team the same as they do their AHL affiliates. They could then ensure that the young prospects get the roles they need development wise, etc... I would assume the team would have to go out and trade for the guys after they pick them, and would potentially want players to jump leagues say going from the Finish or Swiss leauge to the team they own in Sweden, etc...

The main drawbacks is that it would be expensive for something that would probably only rarely be used, so perhaps being a minority owner that helps pay the bills makes more sense.

Grade A prospect, no more, no less. Don't put him on a pedastal or don't throw him under bus. Suzuki will take time to adjust to less time and space and a more physical game once he turns Pro next year. Let Bouchard push him and coach him to work at the parts of his game that will turn him into a NHL player. 1 or 2 AHL years. He's not making the NHL next year IMO.

I agree that he does not need to play in the NHL to learn the pro game. AHL is fine in his case.

BUT..... if it looks right out of camp that he could score 20-25 or more as a winger being fed by Drouin, Domi or Kotkaniemi, then put him on the big club.

No, I agree. He needs to show more compete and engagement. The IQ and skills are there, but I'd like to see morr speed/urgency in his game. That, with his lack of strength, is why I'd be surprised if he made the big club next year.

This guy needs AHL time. Even if he struggles, it would be a wake up call that he needs be a lot more engaged in the game. Would be great if he played alongside of Poehling since they could complement each other well.

That would be a great starting six in Laval next year! Unfortunately, Romanov will not be coming over next year.

I think he needs to get stronger and this will be his biggest challenge. Poehling will be more NHL ready sooner IMO.

nope he isnt. but hopefully he is just annoyed.. but that sounds more like an excuse, if he had dominated the WJC he wouldnt be "criticed" for his lack of intensity. but he didnt.

If you are right, then he won't make the team, that simple.

I like our prospect pool a lot but I'm not going to think they will all turn into impact players or make the NHL right away. It's premature.

Kotkaniemi was battling Pleky, DLR, Peca for the 3rd line center role. Suzuki will be battling a heck of a lot of wingers. Some LW who can play both sides (Lehkonen, Byron, Tatar) and our current RW (Gallagher, Armia, Shaw).

What winger does Suzuki outplay and take his job as a 20 year old in his first NHL season? We already have one too many top 9 forwards and Shaw or Byron will have to move to 4th line.

Drouin / Danault / Gallagher
Tatar / Domi / Byron or Shaw
Lehkonen / Kotkaniemi / Armia

If Suzuki looks like he can break 20 goals in his rookie season, he would knock Lehkonen or Armia to an elite 4th line. More like 2 third lines.

Of course, it likely won't happen, but management should keep an open mind.

Obviously he will be given a chance. But I doubt he will look like he can score 20 goals and knock down Lehkonen or Armia. 3 assist in 5 WJC games with no goals. The kid is a play making winger with some goal scoring ability. Going to take time
