My guess is someone on the Marlies that he was in contact with in the last week or so tested positive, and even though he was tested multiple times with the Leafs and they call came back negative, he still has to go on the protocol list. Could be wrong but I assume it's an "abundance of caution" thing.
He's only guaranteed to make 70k this year. My guess is like a lot of younger Marlies he shares a condo off the Gardner with a teammate.

Just vaccinate the NHL and be over with it.

Just insanity.

How bout instead of vaccinating healthy millionaires they don't And these guys start actually following the protocol closer.

The thing with Covid.... You aren't gonna get it unless you arent following procedure. Isn't Ontario under lockdown even? So u know... It's unfortunate that Robertson and the Marlies are having issues but and as tough as this sounds... It's truly too bad they exposed themselves to it. Follow Ontario's rules and you won't get covid... Don't? You will. These guys all knew the risks.. all knew the protocol to follow... Some have obviously not followed along completely.

Also AHL isn't the NHL... No real need for NHL or AHL is there...... Certainly not essential.

Two games. How many practices, meetings, and training sessions? No logic to any of this. No wonder people are sick of this crap.

I think for most people the logic is very clear. Virus that transmits through human interaction, isolate people who may have come in contact to prevent possible spread. Not rocket science.

So what front line worker or hotspot citizen or much more vulnerable person do you propose step aside so a young, healthy man can play a game with a little less risk? Think of the optics of that. No health unit in Canada will have anything to do with that.

I'm sure a collection of 30+ billionaires could get their hands on a couple thousand shots. Of course they can't have shots from the Canadian government because of the PR optics.

Just got back from TSN for the morning news and saw about 16 pics of various sports teams on the front page violating Covid protocol, without having to go to deeper pages. These guys have to learn to keep their distance better and try to keep their hands off each other when there is a celebration situation. No wonder they catch Covid. The second they get into the dressing rooms the masks should go on. No car pooling in the Ferrari after the game. No visiting other players and getting drunk after the game. No passing the phone around to look at jokes. Since no one in the stands, keep each line and defence pairing 6 feet apart, changing seats into player benches temporarily. This isn't rocket science. If they don't care what they do in front of the camera you can imagine what they do when they're not.

Not sure how that would work You would need to bring them across the border. Is that even allowed? Pretty sure the US still has restrictions on vaccines being exported. And you need someone give the jabs (you can't just have anyone do it, it has to be under the supervision of a medical professional). So you still have the optics issue for whoever gets involved and there's the lesser optics problem with the teams doing this in the first place: if you're willing to use your money and clout to do this for young healthy athletes, why aren't you doing the same for everyday Canadians that are front line workers, vulnerable or in hotspot regions? I honestly doubt this would happen. It would be a PR disaster.

People are incorrect in thinking these vaccines stop the spread: (From Time Magazine):

not all vaccines work that way, and it’s not actually what the two COVID-19 vaccines authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration—made by Moderna and Pfizer-BioNtech—are designed to do. Their effectiveness is measured by how well they protect people against moderate to severe COVID-19 disease—not how well they prevent infection or spread of the COVID-19 virus itself.

There's little to no point in vaccinating NHL players above others with more serious (possible) Effects from contracting the disease. Atheletes should probably be the last to get them, tbh, as they have almost zero associated risks (young. good health, in good shape)

For sure yet all the leaders making all the rules and lockdowns getting caught and exposed doing the very things they tell you that you can't do.

Just get the players vaccinated already. As has been stated numerous times, it would only require 500 doses for all Cdn teams' players and coaches. A drop in the vaccine supply bucket.
What if the players don't want to be vaccinated?

they’ve all tested negative or they wouldn’t be in the game. That is why they can touch either other. It’s pretty simple logic

Then they don’t get to play. The NHL can’t do a bubble forever. At some point it will be mandatory for them.

no it won’t because like all other pandemics the world will move on from it and it sounds like the world is choosing to do that come September 2021. You can’t live in fear of the virus forever, at some point we have to move on and live with it. Hopefully we develop better treatment methods and can get more people vaccinated, especially here in Canada. But life will go on.

EDIT: also it’s an infringement of rights to force people to take the vaccine. They would face a nice large lawsuit if they made that rule, it will be heavily encourage but there will be no rule that states you can’t play if you don’t get the vaccine.

Nice to see he's cleared. I still don't want him playing anymore than three more games (including playoffs) though. Once he plays a 7th game his contract won't slide and we'll likely be paying him 3+ million instead of 793k in 2023-24, during Matthews last season under contract.
