He's been decent but you guys are way too eager to call him a success. He needs to show more consistency to warrant that kind of praise. He wasn't as "affective" against the Jets as he was against the Leafs for example.

Replace Anisimov & Paquette with L. Brown & Formenton.

Paul was great in his role, he's been as "effective" as we could hope

No clue why anyone would want to move him, he's playing his role great, big, 25 and cheap

The irony in all of this is that you are essentially chirping yourself. You are mocking the posters that want the team to manage the assets better ie not giving away picks for free. However the player you are using as your example was a 4th round pick. To go even further, this player wouldnt even be on the taxi squad right now if it was two years ago. The players you are essentially calling a dime a dozen who other posters want them to manage correctly.

You're missing the MOST important point here... and lol here comes the boom

Nick Paul was waived on Feb 3, 2019

But Ouroboros know this already, he's the one who made the thread when it happened :

Waived: - Nick Paul

Imagine Nick Paul playing on the Habs or Leafs. It would piss me off.

Revelation for me.

I thought he was going to be a good bottom-6 player but I seriously don't know anymore

Not only the flashy plays (goals, set ups, posts, etc), he does so many little things right, make the right play most of the time, doesn't rush anything. Just a smart player with very nice tools.

The guy is becoming a coach's dream.

Elite 3rd line center in the making? He is strong on faceoffs and defensively

Yeah my thinking on Paul going through an adjustment too. Hopefully one of a few power forwards this team will soon have

Yip, might be a real solid 3rd liner, that can play up in the top 6 for spells. Love Nick Paul and the way he plays.

Nick Paul is the Sens new Fisher/Kelly/Pageau.

Hes certainly his own player in terms of style. But hes our next top 6/9ish player-with-heart love affair in the making.

Its the way he plays and the positive vibes that he brings - its an impossible combo for most of us Sens fans to resist falling in love with. Never mind the fact that hes all thats left from the Spezza trade (lol), or how many times he was cut or how hard he worked to make the jump to get here now.

If you guys are looking for reasons why DJ Smith might just be a really bad coach, read below :

Paul is who White should look at and seek to emulate.

Doesn't have nearly the same body and strenght

Who Colin White should look at is Philippe Danault. Even if he doesn't become as good defensively, that's exactly the kind of player he should emulate his game after. Like Danault, he will not produce offense by himself but if you play him with the right players, he will get his share of points. In Montreal, Danault mainly played with Pacioretty, Radulov, Andrew Shaw, Galchenyuk then Tatar and Gallagher since 2018-19.

Danault was young and totally unproven, yet he was placed in a position to succeed. That's how he became the player he is today. Weird because that's what we did with White before DJ Smith. Last year White got injured early then was never able to get in the coach's good book until later in the season where he went 7 pts in 6 games and looked good. Then this year, he INEXPLICABLY got sit for Artem Anisimov in the opening game, a player in his last NHL legs. Great job DJ, destroyed White's confidence even more, a player who has a "big contract" and knows he has to rebound.

So that's what happened with Danault in Montreal. Here in Ottawa, we are so much smarter though. We have Anisimov and Paquette making White expendable.. But anyway, like it will be the case with several players in the next few years, a man's trash is another man's treasure. We'll see if White is part of that group. I think Bobby Ryan and Rudolfs Balcers are early candidates. Funny how much we pay Ryan to be one of the Wings best players.

But we only have much much better players playing the "right way" every game, so nothing to worry about.

Paul is looking amazing. 2 out of 5 games he was our best player.

Late bloomer who benefited from slow development and competing his way into the roster. He’s arrived, and he might not even be at his peak yet.

Don’t trade Paul.

That’s what happens when you give a young guy a chance, especially when the season is a throw away.

If the young kid sucks, there we go. We know we can safely move on.

If the young kid puts things together, VOILA! You get a guy like Paul who was otherwise out on waivers for any other team should they have wanted him.

What a professional. Paulie already sounds like a veteran. Maybe he should be wearing one of the A's.

Nick Paul doesn't need to over compensate by having a letter on his jersey just like he doesn't need a super expensive sports car. Everyone already knows how big it is.
