It really shouldn't be Holden versus Yandle. We should have both of them.

Guys. Nick Holden is not better than Keith Yandle.

Come on.

Though Holden is more productive this year offensively, I agree that Yandle is absolutely a better passer/playmaker and indeed has an ability to see things developing on the ice better than Holden. Yandle can really work some magic. Great vision.

That said, Holden is a stronger, more physical, more capable guy on the defensive side of things. I think he also has a better shot than Yandle...but that's not saying much...as Yandle has a terrible slapper and not-so-special wrister.

So I guess it depends on what your needs are or what you prefer in a defenseman. I can understand those who argue in favor of Holden over Yandle.

Almost funnier than Girardi being better than Klein and he just needs more rest.

He's been bad at hockey for 4 years, he doesn't need more rest.

That being said, still <3 Holden, but he is not even as good as Yandle in his own zone.

If Yandle doesn't have the puck, he is a train wreck in his own zone. He will shy away from taking the body, and his board work is non-existent. Holden can do those things. When Holden gets the puck in his own zone, he does not make the long outlets like Yandle can, but he's good at short, high percentage passes that ultimately get the puck out of the zone.

I really think it's laughable to think that Yandle is good in his own zone. He's only good in his own zone when he has the puck with space and no forecheck buzzing around him.

Yandle wins the Corsi battle, but notice how things start to go in favor of Holden once you look at the other stats. The number of shots that actually get through is nearly a tie...and then the scoring chances tilt well in favor of Holden...then the actual Goals scored are WAY in favor of Holden.

Yandle has Corsi on Holden, and nothing else.

Holden also has the benefit of playing for the top scoring offense in the league while Yandle plays for a team with 49 less goals (26th in the league)

Now compare them for more than half a season...

OK, I can't do that on Corsica. It won't let me do half a season for Yandle last year...it only allows me to do full season. So much for that idea.:badidea:

Holden's bigger, stronger--plays either left or right D--isn't soaking up all the power play time for his production. Holden is pretty good in the defensive end of the ice--gets penalty killing time. He's a +20--something that Yandle's never seriously approached his entire career.

Last year if I'm not mistaken Yandle was a minus player. He did absolutely no penalty killing and nobody in their right mind wanted him to. Some would carp about him not getting enough minutes but even strength other than McDonagh Yandle got pretty much the same minutes as the other D and he got the lion's share of the power play minutes. His not being great in the defensive zone is not a controversial statement--it's pretty much established fact. The Rangers would rather have broken down Dan Boyle on the penalty kill than Yandle.

And then there's Yandle's new contract and there is no way in the world the Rangers should have gone anywhere near that. Holden's contract is a very nice one for us. The Panthers have taken a huge step back this year--the Rangers at least when they were healthy had taken a nice step forward.

Its how I see it. Nick Holden has been fighting with Klein for title of most reliable IMO.

Yandle is not very good in his own zone, I agree. But he is very good at not playing in his D-zone. I really like Alain Vigneault but he handled his minutes so bad. He played him like some average third pairing powerplay specialist, then McDonagh got injured and he needed Yandle to step up, he did and Vigneault was like the only one person surprised.
I like Holden but comparing him to Yandle? Yandle had 47 points playing half of the games on third pairing with terrible quality of teammates and on the second powerplay. Having him on this Rangers team with the forward quality they have would be so great to watch.
