Now we're getting somewhere. The Hockey News back in 2010 published a book in 2010 "We Are The Champions: The Greatest Hockey Teams of All Time"
I disagree with them on a lot of stuff but their list is a lot better
- 76-77 - Habs
- 83-84 - Oilers
- 82-83 - Islanders
- 55-56 - Habs
- 51-52 - Red Wings
- 71-72 - Bruins
- 74-75 - Flyers
- 01-02 - Red Wings
- 91-92 - Pens
- 62-63 - Leafs
- 68-69 - Habs
- 00-01 - Avs
- 38-39 - Bruins
- 88-89 - Flames
- 48-49 - Leafs
- 07-08 - Red Wings
- 06-07 - Ducks
- 43-44 - Habs
- 35-36 - Red Wings
- 99-00 - Devils
- 93-94 - Rangers
- 08-09 - Pens
- 60-61 - Hawks
- 98-99 - Stars
- 39-40 - Rangers
Do you not understand what chronological means? Let alone, reverse chronological.
06-07 ducks would crush a lot of those teams

Uhh...
-97 Red Wings was better than -98 Red Wings.
With or without Konstantinov is a HUGE difference.
The 08 team was better in pretty much every aspect outside of looking at the lineup on paper. 08 was like a well oiled machine offensively and defensively and 09 was basically a "we're going to win on talent."
Hossa didn't necessarily gel well with Datsyuk or Zetterberg and Babcock basically refused to play them together like in 2008 except for when Datsyuk returned from injury in Game 5 of the Finals and couldn't even play center (thus he played on Z's wing.)
And like you mentioned, 2008's goaltending was much better in the regular season (although once the playoffs hit Osgood stepped back up.)
09 Detroit still wins a Cup with better health, but at their best the 08 team was more impressive statically and visually.

Why only 76-77? 75-76 and 77-78 were pretty much as strong as 1977.
Should be
1. 77 Canadiens
2. 76 Canadiens
3. 78 Canadiens
then you can plug in the oilers and the islanders, on par with 78-79 Canadiens.
Take out the Blackhawks, put in one of the Howe/Abel/Lindsay/Sawchuk Red Wings teams'.
TBH, they really should only put in one or two from a dynasty. Putting all four Islander teams, for example just eats up space, and if you do that, you're really restricting yourself to like five teams. 50's wings, 80s Islanders and Oilers, 60's and 70's Canadiens, as you have 3-4 different yearly iterations of the same team.
I'm a homer but 99 Stars have gotta be somewhere close to that list.
Modano (Hall of Famer, #1 American born scorer)
Hull (Hall of Famer, 700+ goals)
Nieuwendyk (Hall of Famer, 560+ goals, 1000+ points)
Verbeek (500+ goals, 1000+ points)
Belfour (Hall of Famer)
Zubov (Close to 800 points, should be HoF some day)
Hatcher (US hockey hall of fame, great captain)
Sydor (500+ points, very good dman)
Matvichuck (paired with Hatcher to form one of the more physical shutdown pairs)
That was a hell of a top four on defense and then Belfour behind them.
Jere Lehtinen (3x Selke winner, 500+ points)
Langenbrunner (600+ points)
Had a shutdown line of Carbonneau, Keane, and Reid.
That was just a perfectly built team, especially for the playoffs. Hitchcock as coach with a deep defensive team and a top 6 that had lots of scoring. Finished 1st in goals against and 8th in goals scored. Beat a loaded Avalanche team in the WCF that would have won the cup almost any other year.
51-19-12 for 114 points
yes let's add teams that played in a 6 team league and never dealt with a salary cap .
The fact the Pens and Blackhawks can play this dominance in a 30 team league with a cap is pretty amazing. The Canadiens and all their teams and cups wouldn't exist in todays league.
