NHL.com sucks, right?

I don't think you know what the home page looked like 3 days ago. The layout is definitely different, with new info displayed. I don't think they've done much with the sub menus yet, though.
Well okay, layout on the main page is different, but all the sub-pages are the same as before.

Videos don't work on my phone (iphone8), either through embed (text about their cookie policy fills up the whole thing) or right on the website. What a joke.

Site has been hot trash for ages, wouldn't even load anything for me all last year - with extensions disabled and multiple browsers. Seems like they've either got a bunch of unskilled interns or they just handed the job to someone who has absolutely no idea what they're doing.

It absolutely infuriated me from a UX perspective (not actually that mad) that I pay $150 for NHL.tv, and while I'M LOGGED INTO the website I still have to go through a landing page that's asking me to buy NHL.tv.

I think they might've fixed that process, but Jesus Christ that was annoying. I literally just paid for the product you're trying to sell me, and your advertising (which I couldn't even buy twice, obviously)... is preventing me from getting to what I paid for.

With how things are shifting to portable devices and the personal computer being ignored, sites like these will get worse. It gets too expensive to develop two versions of software so webpages are more catered to the smart phone market.

Enjoy your web browsing when they start introducing touch screen features on home computer monitors that mimic smart phone use. Fun times ahead.

its ok for me if i want to see a recent goal... i remember there was an option to look up every goal a player scored by just browsing through his playerinfo... they sadly removed that feature.

As an NHL.tv subscriber, I don't get any ads for goal highlights in the app. At least some meaningful perk.

Yes, MLBAM.

No lie is needed, it's common knowledge that MLB produces the NHL site and app. Even I know that, and I haven't watched a single baseball game in my life, and have never visited the MLB site. (As a European, I find baseball rules utterly incomprehensible; it appears to be a bunch of folks aimlessly running around in a weird triangle, but I guess there must be some logic and definite purpose behind it.) :skeptic:
once you get to know the rules and the players you will love it

I never said that, I just think you'd find something to ***** about either way.

I agree to some extent that people will complain no matter what.

That being said, just yesterday I was trying to post goal videos in a thread here and ran into the following issues:
- I had to click through several screens to get to what I needed, which is just bad interface design. Thank god I knew where to find them in the box score screen.
- Each video launches into a completely new screen, so you have to continuously go back and forth reloading pages. Again, that's just bad site design.
- There is no way to slow down a video. There is no way to slow-mo a freaking sports video!
- In my experience, the video has a tendency to "jump" by a split-second when you pause and restart. So you can't slow-mo, you can't go frame by frame, and sometimes you can't even stop-and-start effectively.
- The site auto-loads the next video, so you can't just let it run while you look away or go to another window. You'll find yourself suddenly watching some other video from a different game.
- There are no real descriptions on each clip. You have to click back to the box score to see who got the assists, etc. Which means re-loading the box score page, checking the data, then re-loading the highlight vid, then sitting through another ad.

This is an incredible amount of dysfunction just to do something as simple as watching a goal to see if the assist was awarded correctly. It smacks of a design team not really knowing how hockey people are going to use the site, and hockey people not knowing what a properly designed website looks like, and neither side recognizing that they've completely screwed up the product.

Also I just noticed the shift chart links are broken again, and have been almost every time I've checked them this season. This is just basic website maintenance.

Does anyone know how to stop videos from autoloading that play in box scores during intermissions? I leave a ton of tabs open to check scores periodically and when the videos play my laptop makes a lot of noise. Would save me a lot of aggravation.

Not crazy about nhl.com, but it has been working a lot better for me this season than last year.

It's just that it's unlikely to happen. Baseball coverage in Europe is zero. I hear the "World" Series took place in America recently? Well, I have no idea if the event is already over or not, which teams played in it, and who won. Just zero interest in covering those "regional American" sports in the media over here. Same for American football – zero coverage (and the Super Bowl is a non-event, largely ignored). Basketball is at least familiar but is considered a second-tier sport.

So, to anyone complaining the NHL isn't on a par with the NFL, MLB or NBA in terms of popularity, they should consider this strictly only applies to the American perspective.

The league paid a fortune for the website, and some shoddy web developers made off like bandits.

Try going to gamecenter to view a box score, and scroll down to the shots, or the goal by goal scoring. There's two separate scrolling bars that interfere with each other. You might have to switch back and forth between bars to get to the bottom, and one of the bars is like 2 pixels wide.

The stats section contains a great multitude of stats, but plenty of them are just filler. Meanwhile they're missing several vital rate stats, and you can't filter by game state (e.g. 4 v 4 scoring, overtime scoring rates, anything with expected goals, etc..).
