How broken is NHL 17 you say?

What if I told you the highest total of points from McDavid through 7 seasons was 62 points in a year...Or I was able to trade Lucic to Florida for Huderdeau + 50% retained salary? Or Coyle to Edmonton at 50% retained for a 2nd rounder 2018? or how Elliot was traded to Edmonton then the next year jumps from 82 to 88, in which I traded back to Calgary for their 1st and 2nd round picks 2018? or the fact I have won the Presidents Trophy 4 years in a row and got swept in the 1st round 4 times in a row?

If these aren't broken, I don't know what is

I am proud to announce I have won my first Stanley Cup in NHL 17 after countless hours of frustration and anger with the St Louis Blues in my first year with them. Took a break from GM mode for a while after my most frustrating GM mode yet (see the page before this one to see how it went) came back and kept it realistic as usual, didn't even expect to win the cup. My team:
Steen(87, 62 points)-Fabbri(84, 71 points))-Tank(91, 84 points) lowered him a bit because he'd always score 100+ points in my other gm modes, he's more of a 75+ point player and he ended up with 84 points and 42 goals.
Schwartz(87, 73 points)-Stasny(87, 54 points)-Yak(80, 36 points) lowered him also a bit
Perron(84, 39 points)-Lehtera(82, 34 points)-Berglund(84, 41 points)
Upshall(81 I think or maybe 80 I can't recall, 30 points)-Brodziak(81, 23 points)-Reaves(81, 15 points)
JayBo(85, 19 points)-Pietro(90, 56 points)
Gunn(84, 14 points)-Parayko(86, 42 points)
Edmunson(82, 11 points)-Borowiecki(claimed off waivers, 81, 7 points)
Allen(86, .914)
Miller(84 traded from VanCity for a second in 2017, was on the trading block, .913)
Scratches- Jaskin(80) Bortuzzo(80)
I kept it pretty realistic and didn't make any major moves because my team came flying right out the gate and I didn't want to mess up what we had going, we were first in the league. Injuries were on, first round we won 4-2, second round, 4-3, third round 4-1, SCF against the Pens, 4-3. Almost had a heart attack game 7 (I take this game very seriously lol and because I have been to the SCF numerous times but haven't won the cup. I played the third period of about 10-15 games as I always do, also did not play Playoffs because that is unfair. Allen got injured after the second round and Miller carried us to a cup victory. In real life, that team looks like a first round/second round exit. Honestly don't know how we won but I'll take it.
The following year we end up second in our division, win in 5 games and then we get eliminated in 6 games in the second round. Nucks were rebuilding so they offered us Edler for Gawdin(med bottom 6) and a 1st round draft pick. I am keeping it realistic and that's a fair price for a rental Edler in real life, so I agreed. Team:
Schwartz- (91, jumps up 4 overalls, 72 points)- Fabbri(86, 67 points)-Tank(92, 87 points)
Steen(86, 57 points)-Stasny(87, 53 points)-Yak(82, 39 points)
Perron(84, 36 points)-Barbashev(81, 34 points)-Berglund(83, 43 points)
Upshall(79, 24 points)-Brodziak(81, 16 points)-Reaves(81, 12 points)
Edler(86, 33 points)-Parayko(91, 74 points!)
Edmunson(83, 18 points)-Pietro(90, 57 points)
Gunn(84, 11 points)-JayBo(81, 14 points)
Allen(87, Conn Smythe winner from last year, .923)
Fitzgerald(85, .933)
Scratches- Paajarvi (79), Borowiecki (81)
Finally, to my third year, Steen retired, JayBo is gone, Reaves is gone, Allen is trading for a 1st round pick+a third, cap killed my lineup as you can see, still was realistic and didn't trade away cap dumps
Barbashev(83, 43 points)-(Fabbri(86, 56 points, was injured a lot)- Tank(92, 78 points)
Schwartz(64 points)-Stasny(87, 61 points)-Yak(82, 46 points)
Perron(84, 36 points)-Berglund(83, 34 points)-E. Kane (Isles offered us him in exchange for our 2nd round pick, his morale was bad and he was a 78, when he got traded to us he jumped to an 84, 46 points, I even got them to retain 50%)
Upshall(80, 16 points)- Brodziak(79, 19 points)-Bleackley(med bottom 6, 79 overall, 32 points and 18 goals)
Dunn(83, 24 points)-Parayko(93, won the Norris last year, 70 points)
Ed(84, 17 points)-Pietro(90, 53 points)
Edler(85, 21 points)-Gunn(82, 8 points)
Schmaltz (81, 4 points in 19 games)
Fitzgerald (85, traded Allen after Fitzgerald posted a .933 in 37 games, .919 this year as the starting G)
Husso(83, .912)
2nd after Dallas in our division, WCF appearance but lost to the Oilers in 5 games, who eventually won the cup, the Salary Cap is killing us

I don't really expect anyone to read this, why I posted this I have no idea lol

I Think it's way too easy, playing or simulating, I win either way.

The biggest problem I have, is that the A.I is so bad at resigning/handling contracts. Within 2 seasons almost every team has maxed and can't resign their players.

They resign meh players and then they can't afford their star players. It gets old. They never buyout a bad contract in order to resign their star player.

I am currently about 30 games into my second season. I play as the Sabres and I have played all games up to this point.

Last season I ended up finishing with about the 8th pick. It was really similar to the actual Sabres. I am ok at the game and play on Superstar.

This season with Eichel (92), Reinhart (90) and Ristolainen (91) with huge increases in OVR, I am killing it and 2nd in the conference. My team looks like this:

Girgensons-Eichel-Nylander
Bailey-O'Reilly-Okposo
Carrier-Reinhart-Baptiste
Foligno-Larsson-Fasching

McCabe-Ristolainen
Jake Larsson-Anthony DeAngelo
Guhle-Justin Schultz

My Centers are insane. I love rocking that Center spine.

I just made some rules for myself to make it more interesting, harder and realistic.

Any more ideas :)?

Free agency:
--------------------

- can't trade a signed player before the trade deadline (1 year contracts)

- if the player has signed an contract to more than 1 year, you got to keep him until next deadline minimum

- no trading of prospects you've signed as UFA in the first two years

---------------------

Trading picks:
----------------------

Only allowed to trade picks from the next 3 years draft, can't include multiple picks from the same round (unless said pick is acquired from another team). I:e can't offer 2017 & 2018 2nd round picks from your team in the same trade.

Resigned players:
--------------------------

Not allowed to trade a resigned player before the deadline (only players with 1 years left).

Players with multiple years left can't get traded before next year's trade deadline.

Trading:
-------------

Caphit of: $6M and higher got full no trade clauses and can't get traded to the current bottom 5 teams in the league.

Players with +85 overall; only allowed to trade two of them in a season. If you're rebuilding, trade as many as you like if the players are aged 30 and up.

No trading of signed, drafted prospects in the first 2 years.

Chicago (90's Rosters):

Just traded

CHI: Tony Amonte + Gary Suter + 1st (2019) + 1st (2020)

for

VAN: Pavel Bure

Let's see if Roenick + Bure can help me get over that hump of losing to Gretzky and the Kings in back to back conference finals.

September 24, 2016:

Syeve Yzerman has inexplicably stepped down as the general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. In his place, Dominic Preta has been hired.

Preta on his new job: "I think this will be a fun experience for me, as a first time GM. I think we have a championship contender here and I am willing to do what it takes to get us there. I already called Jon Cooper, and told him to actually play Drouin. I think this will be a real ride for me.

Lightning owner Jeff Vinik on the hiring: "I was sad to see Steve just up and walk away but glad that Dominic seems enthusiastic about his new role here."

Preta's first move was to bring aboard Nikita Gusev from Russia. His acquisition will likely make a forward (say, Alex Killorn) expendable. The team will be targeting a defenseman in return.

The Islanders are suddenly in rebuild mode, and a trade opportunity arises. They have interest in prospect Dennis Yan, believing he can become a top-line forward there. They are even willing to make a big move for him.

TRADE:

:bolts
Calvin De Haan

:isles
Dennis Yan
Jonathan Racine
Bokondji Imama

Garth Snow: "We feel that Dennis will be an impact player here, and we were willing to pay the price." Snow was fired the same day.

Dominic Preta: "Defense is a priority, and we feel we got a very good shut-down defenseman in Calvin, and hopefully he chips in some offense as well."

The Bolts still feel one piece away from a dynasty. They are looking at rebuilding teams to finish it.

The Coyotes call.

:bolts
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Anton Karlsson

:coyotes
Mathieu Joseph
Otto Somppi
Mitchell Stephens
Boris Katchouk
Alex Killorn

John Chayka: "We got a boatload of prospects. We will be a dynasty, just watch out."

Dominic Preta: "I think we got the defenseman that will put us over the top. I think we are now better than Pittsburgh."

Tampa now only needs to make moves to avoid the salary cap.

Kevin Cheveldayoff: "We gain two forwards who can fill in if need be, and the cost was low."

Dominic Preta: "This move was all about salary for us. Nothing else to say."

Andrej Sustr

Jason Botterill (I know the timeline makes no sense just live with it): "Andrej is a depth defenseman for us, and a fine one at that."

Dominic Preta: "Sustr didn't have a place here, and shedding the salary is nice."

Bumping this

it's dump that you cant upgrade during season or that they hardly give you any money to work with. You basically have to max out your arena budget and drop the promotions budget to min along with advertising and update your facilities once throughout the year

The game mode is so broken it's unbelievably frustrating.

Here I am with a team that has 91 Mackinnon, 91 Panarin, a random 89 Center, and all 84/85/86 wingers in the Top 9. As well as a 91 Ristolainen, 92 Hanifin, and 92 Reilly on Defense.

And they can't even be a .500 club in the simulation.

Have you tried juggling the lines? Some players just don't mesh well with each other.

Every player hates being a line under their listed role. The most successful GMs I've had in NHL 16-17 is when I traded away some top players for lesser ones just because their morale doesn't bring the whole team down.

Only EA can design such a **** poor excuse of a game.

Your ratings are a tad high and how the hell did you get OEL for a bunch of random ****?? Why would AZ do that?? Weird thread
