So Close, Yet Now So Far

402A0001_2_JPEG_SCREENSHOT_rIB.jpg

Senators forward Shane Prince celebrates after scoring against the Gladiators on the road.

All they needed was four more wins. The Seattle Gladiators were so close, but now they are just as far away from the Cup as every other team. Besides the Ottawa Senators, who defeated Seattle in six games to win it all.

Things started off very well for the Glads, as they took game one by a score of 4-1. Nikita Filatov, who played nine games for Ottawa in 2011-12 but did not impress, scored two goals that night. However, Ottawa bounced back and won the next two games. Seattle only scored two goals in those two games. Suddenly, their offense exploded in game four, as they won 6-4 and bailed out Daniel Cotton for having an abysmal game. Dale Weise scored a hat trick that night, and his centerman Andy Miele had two goals and two assists. However, in the next game Seattle only scored one goal, losing 2-1 in double overtime. Alex Steen netted the game winning goal for the Sens. Ottawa finished things off on home ice in game six, with a 3-1 victory. Young goaltender Robin Lehner was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP of the playoffs.

Game 1: 4-1 Gladiators Win
Game 2: 2-1 Senators Win
Game 3: 3-1 Senators Win

Game 4: 6-4 Gladiators Win
Game 5: 2-1 Senators 2OT Win
Game 6: 3-1 Senators Win

When asked about his team's performance, general manager Deku Scrub had nothing but positive things to say.

Reporter: "After everything they accomplished this season, are you dissapointed in your team's performance in the [Stanley Cup] Finals?"

Deku Scrub: "....Are you kidding me? We joined the league four years ago. And we just played in the Stanley Cup Finals.
I don't think I really need to explain that any further. I'm incredibly proud of what this team has done. We now know that we've built a championship-contending team, and now our job is to make sure that we bring the Stanley Cup to Seattle in the near future."

Thanks. I'm still surprised I was able to make such a good team out of what I had so quickly :laugh:
Yeah it's not always easy. My Halifax team is not expected to compete for probably another season or two... sadly. And even then it'll probably be longer before I'm in Cup-winning territory!

Devils acquire Mikkel Boedker from 'Yotes

boedker10_slide.jpg

Mikkel is 26, he has 1 year remaining on his existing contract.

We didn't try to make a trade, the Coyotes sent this deal to us. Our trade block was automatically updated for us so that why they sent it to us. Trade detail below:

:coyotes

New Jersey's 2016 1st Round Pick

:devils

Mikkel Boedker (26 Years Old, 2nd Line Forward, 84 Overall, 4 Stars)

He is a 'Sniper' and compliments TWF Adam Henrique and PLY Derek Stepan well. Travis Zajac will move down to 3rd line Center but will be active on the Special Teams. This deal comes after we signed Free Agent Matt Stajan to a 1 Year deal worth $3,300,000. Matt is 33, 81 Overall and a TWF. Both provide a definite offensive spark, most importantly. We've been struggling, continuing to be inconsistent. We have a Solid team up and down the line-up now. No excuses.

Devils acquire Goalie Nicklas Backstrom from Wild in Deadline Goalie Swap

Minnesota+Wild+v+Montreal+Canadiens+SuJfQJdCnOZl.jpg

Nicklas is 38 years old, he is listed as a 'Starting Goaltender'.

There was lots of Goalies available, lots of Elite Goaltenders, on the block. But we had to respect the fact that young Stud Jake Patterson(Who is having another excellent year in the AHL) is coming up next year and soon to be #1. But we still wanted to try and signify us wanting that Cup. So we dealt Jonas Hiller to the Wild for Nicklas Backstrom. Details below:

:wild

Jonas Hiller (34 Years Old, Back-up Goalie, 82 Overall)

:devils

Nicklas Backstrom (38 Years Old, Starting Goaltender, 84 Overall)

Also Hiller wasn't having a great year, Antti Raanta, our back-up, was having a better year that Jonas. I expect us to have a good stretch down to the Playoffs. Don't want any disappointments.

Hurricanes Lose In Seven.....Again

Another season ends in what can be called a disappointment for the Canes. They lost in the first round to the Tampa Bay Lightning, a division rival. This organization has been and is expected to be a playoff team. They make the playoffs as a high seed every year, but they can't seem to do well in them. Changes will be expected in the upcoming offseason. Scores:

3-2 :canes
4-3 :bolts
4-1 :bolts
3-2 :bolts
1-0 :canes
4-2 :canes
5-2 :bolts

Devils miss out on Playoffs for 3rd straight year

kovyjpg-4fa648c3dbb17836_medium.jpg

Ilya Kovalchuk packs his bags, going home. Not to playoffs, in another disappointing year. He lead the Devils in points with 64.

It was an extremely disappointing year. We should be a playoff team but for the 3rd straight year we fail to quality for the Post-Season. This is on the players, yes. Most didn't perform, but it's on the Coach aswell. GM JaredCowenFan tried everything he could, making lots of moves, doing all things a General Manager does. He still has 2 years left on his remaining ex-tended contract. Devils management said they wont be making a GM switch [just yet].

Off-Season next, we don't have a 1st Round Draft Pick in this years Draft but some moves will be made. The Devils are looking for a franchise shake-up. Jake Patterson will be coming up.

Speaking of AHL the Devils Albany Devils are lighting it up in the AHL, with a current record of 48-19-5. More details on that coming up.

*(I am sorry Devil Fans)*

First-Year Goalie Daniel Cotton
Wins Three Awards

dsc0001.jpg

Cotton played some of his junior career with the Seattle Thunderbirds, but was
later traded to the Everett Silvertips, where he won a Memorial Cup.

Winning an NHL award at the age of 22 is always something really special - and it rarely happens to goaltenders. But Gladiators rookie netminder, Daniel Cotton, brought home three trophies at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas. First, he was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy, for best rookie of the year. Then about twenty minutes later, the William Jennings Trophy was given to him, and Jimmy Howard, for being the goaltenders on the team with the least goals against during the regular season. And finally, the second last award of the night, the Vezina Trophy for the league's best goaltender, was also given to Cotton. James Reimer was also a strong candidate, but the voters thought what Cotton accomplished was slightly better, especially since it was his first year in the league. Here is Cotton's stat line from the 2015-16 regular season:

56 games played
36 wins
.936%
1.97 GAA
7 shutouts

It looks like the Seattle Gladiators have a young superstar on their hands.

From Rags to Rags
2nd Round Recap

May 8, 2013

image.JPG

The Rangers were swept by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2nd round.

With the snap of a finger, the New York Rangers are out of the playoffs. They were beaten by the fourth-seeded Carolina Hurricanes in four games, which is a sweep. It was a low scoring affair, as most of the games were a goal apiece. "We never got our offense going", said the Rangers coach. "We need to make improvements this summer and I think we'll do that." Henrik Lundqvist definitely didn't look like his old self; he was mishandling the puck every play it seemed. Not only that, but his GAA was 3.00. However, you cannot really blame him as the defense didn't play that well either. "I don't feel Lundqvist deserves any of the criticism; we as a whole defense didn't play well whatsoever", said Dan Girardi. "I feel bad for Hank as he played his heart out."

Game One: 3-1 L
Game Two: 2-1 L
Game Three: 2-3 OTL
Game Four: 2-4 L

Eagles Make Huge Splash, Acquire Top Line Winger

The 2013-14 season has been a rough ride for the Halifax Eagles and their fans, but it might have just gotten a whole lot better.

Amidst the swirling rumours that an unnamed top-line forward on the Minnesota Wild was clashing with coaching staff and management, the Eagles were pleased to step in and relieve the Wild of the issue by acquiring winger Jason Pominville for a shockingly small price.

To Halifax:
RW Jason Pominville
LW Brett Bulmer

To Minnesota:
C Damien Brunner
HAL 2015 1st round pick

The addition of Pominville has the ability to change the dynamic of this Eagles club. Now blessed with at least two-thirds of a legitimate first line in Pominville and Jonathan Huberdeau, the Eagles hope that this move will boost the team down the road, and perhaps even turn this abhorrent season around.

"Jason is a legitimate threat when on the ice," started GM Dan Brown in his press conference. "He can snipe goals like the best of them, and he's very responsible defensively. This is a huge trade for this franchise. I hope Jason spends a large amount of his career here in Halifax because this move has the potential to be great for both parties."

The Eagles sit at 20-28-4 with the Trade Deadline just a month away.

@CruickshankCH
The Calder Cup will be awarded tonight. Join me live for deciding Game 7 of the Calder Cup Finals from Norfolk.

@CruickshankCH
Puck drop is less than an hour away. Roman Horak has 21 points in 22 playoff games for Abbotsford. Etem has 18 for the Admirals. Dansk vs Andersen. Here we go.

@CruickshankCH
No home ice? No problem! Abbotsford hasn't had home ice yet in these playoffs.

@CruickshankCH
Markus Granlund scores at 9:50 of the 1st to give Abbotsford the lead! Assists to Howse and Saab.

@CruickshankCH
End of the 1st and it's still 1-0 Abbotsford. The ice is tilted toward the Heat offensive zone.

@CruickshankCH
Abbotsford goal! Ferland from Hudler and it's 2-0 at 2:15 of the second period!

@CruickshankCH
Thrower springs Hudler for a breakaway, but the pass is just barely offside.

@CruickshankCH
Abbotsford will have the first power play of the game at 14:53 of the second. Monahan for tripping.

@CruickshankCH
No dice on the power play, but Abbotsford will get another chance. Sarault for roughing with just 11 seconds left in the period. Bad penalty to take.

@CruickshankCH
Two huge saves by Andersen in the waning seconds of the second period to keep the Admirals alive.

@CruickshankCH
No idea how, but Norfolk gives up a breakaway to Roman Horak on their penalty kill. Horak is tripped and will have a penalty shot.

@CruickshankCH
Andersen again. If the Admirals come back, he has to be the MVP.

@CruickshankCH
Save after save for Andersen. Here's one on a deflection, right into the glove.

@CruickshankCH
Heat finally put one by Andersen. Pitlick strips Clark for a breakaway and Andersen can't stop him. Unassisted at 4:20 of the 3rd. That could be the backbreaker.

@CruickshankCH
Willick hits the post. Norfolk not done yet.

@CruickshankCH
Monahan stopped on a breakaway by Dansk.

@CruickshankCH
Ian Saab blows a slapper by Andersen as time expires. Dansk is going to get the shutout and the Abbotsford Heat are your 2015 Calder Cup Champions!

Hurricanes Feel Effects of the Salary Cap; Trade away Jordan Staal

Earlier this afternoon, GM Grind Jam Grind was faced with a difficult task; clearing out space for new raises. RW Nail Yakupov skyrocketed from an 85 OV to a 90 OV sniper. While Nail only made less than 2 million last year, things have changed. It took $11 million dollars/year to re-extend his contract. Along with others needing raises, GM Grind Jam Grind was even forced to let All-Star winger Patrick Kane go.

Now, we are learning that GM Grind Jam Grind has dealt 2nd line center, Jordan Staal, to the St. Louis Blues, for 2017 1st overall pick, Harry Winchester. It is hoped that rookie sniper Morgan Klimchuk, a 2013 1st round draft pick, will be able to fill the void left by Jordan. The Hurricanes will miss Jordan and thank him for the Stanley Cup he brought to Carolina. The Hurricanes will also receive a 2020 3rd round pick from the Blues as part of the trade. They have cleared $6 million in cap space.
