Caps acquire Offensive Defenceman Hampus Lindholm from Ducks

Hampus is a flashy Offensive Scorer, with a high potential ceiling.

The trades keep happening from GM JaredCowenFan, in his most recent trade he has shipped off 28 year old Mathieu Perreault to the Ducks for young prospect Hampus Lindholm. Broken down:

We really feel like this is a fair deal for both Clubs. Anaheim wanted to add another top 9 forward and we want to add young talent. Win, win. Mathieu has played well for us over the years, but it's time to turn a page with this organization.

And ironically, now we've went on a bit of a winning streak with our young rookies playing well. We've won 5 in a row. But are still 14th in the East.

Late Season Push Gives Canucks 100 Points

Forwards Daniel Sedin and Alexandre Burrows celebrate a goal together on home ice.

After a horrendous first half of the season, people thought it would be time for the Vancouver Canucks to rebuild. But they got their **** together and won the Northwest Division. After the trade deadline, when they shipped out Roberto Luongo and brought in Jakub Vorcaek, the Canucks went on a 13-3-1 run. Their final record was 46-28-8, putting them 3rd in the Western Conference with 100 points. This matches them up against the Anaheim Ducks in round one. But more on that later, let's get to individual performances. Daniel Sedin finished 4th in league scoring with 81 points, and hsi brother Henrik was just behind him with 80 points. Cory Schneider was one of the top goalies in the league, with a save percentage of .924% and a 2.22 GAA. He picked up 36 of the Canucks' 46 wins, and the other ten were earned by Roberto Luongo before he was traded. Luongo had more losses than victories, however. Alex Edler had a great season on the back-end, with 41 points, and Jason Garrison and Dan Hamhuis also broke 30 points. Jakub Voracek, who was acquired at the deadline, scored 13 points in 18 games since joining the team. He finished with a total of 46.

As mentioned earlier, Vancouver will be facing the sixth-seeded Anaheim Ducks in round one of the 2013 playoffs. They have four great scorers in Bobby Ryan, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, and Teemu Selanne, but beyond them they don't have much offensive depth. Their defense is also not very deep, and their goaltending is average. The star power that they have pulled them into the playoffs.

Stars ship Baertschi to Winnipeg

News broke early this morning that Dallas Stars GM themethod7 has sent disgruntled winger Sven Baertschi to Winnipeg for prospect Hunter Shinkaruk and a first round pick. Baertschi has been vocal in recent weeks about his lack of playing time, stuck on the third line behind Patrick Sharp and James Van Riemsdyk, leading themethod7 to quietly field offers for the talented but streaky winger. While GMTM7 declined earlier reports that Baertschi was on the block, it became apparent that signing the upcoming RFA would be a tall task, especially given new contracts on the horizon for C Filip Forsberg and RW Vladimir Tarasenko. After captaining his Sarnia Sting to OHL and Memorial Cup championships, Alex Galchenyuk takes his leadership to the next level

Les Habitants have found their newest official leader. Alex Galchenyuk, the storied organization's 29th captain, is the youngest in franchise history.
After a racking up plenty of trophies at the Major Junior level, including capturing Sarnia's first OHL and Memorial Cup championships, Galchenyuk had a stunning freshman season in the NHL.
He is also the third American to wear the 'C' on a Canadiens jersey, after Chris Chelios (joint captain in 1989-90 with Guy Carbonneau) and Galchenyuk's predecessor, Brian Gionta.
The Milwaukee native lead the team in scoring while centering the top line for the Habs in both the regular season and playoffs.

Alex is a natural leader. He's a very mature young man, and he respected our decision to keep him with Sarnia for an additional year of seasoning.
He's vocal and leads by example, both on and off the ice. There's no better choice for the future of the club.

Bring Out the Brooms

The Canucks roster celebrates their second-straight shutout victory, after defeating the Ducks 3-0 in game two.

The Anaheim Ducks are a team that relies on their superstars to score goals - but when their superstars aren't scoring, they can't do much. And that happened in this series. Cory Schneider and the Canucks successfully shut down Ryan Getzlaf and company, only allowing three goals in the four games that were played. Schneider stopped all of the 72 shots he faced in the first two games, posting two shutouts. Game three saw the Ducks net two goals, and Vancouver's offense matched them with three of their own, although the game did reach overtime. Mason Raymond scored his first career overtime goal to give Vancouver a 3-0 series lead. Then in game four, Anaheim was only able to manage one goal and once again the Canucks scored three, finishing off the Ducks.

Stars claim second straight Presidents' Trophy

For the second straight year, the Dallas Stars have won the Presidents' Trophy and will face the Nashville Predators in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With a record of 51-23-8 and 110 pts, the Stars narrowly edged out the Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks, who earned 108 and 107 pts, respectively.

Led by captain Sidney Crosby's 29G and 46A and Cory Schneider's 2.00 GAA/0.927 SV%, the Stars once again enter the postseason as favorites to win the Stanley Cup.

The Stars will face the Predators in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight year - Dallas swept Nashville last year 4-0 before losing to eventual Western Conference champions Minnesota Wild. Nashville's effort to bolster last year's anemic offense saw them sign UFA Jeff Skinner and finished this year just outside the top-10 in goals for, but defense could be a concern, finishing 21st in the league in goals against.

Despite being the top offensive trio on the team, Jonathan Drouin, Alex Galchenyuk, and Sebastian Collberg won't be on the same line.
Drouin has not seemed to fit with the other two, even though Michel Therrien has given the combination a decent amount of time to gel together.

With Louis Leblanc finally making the jump to the big leagues on a permanent basis, fighter Brandon Prust has been pushed down the depth chart.
Jarred Tinordi was also promoted and will slot in on the third pairing, with free agent signee Carlo Colaiacovo, while logging penalty kill minutes.

Starstruck: Stars defeat Boston Bruins en route to second Stanley Cup in 3 years

For the second time in 3 years, the Dallas Stars have been named Stanley Cup champions. After capturing the Presidents' Trophy with a league-best record of 51-23-8 and 110 pts, the Stars marched to another Stanley Cup win, and are well on their way to becoming the first true dynasty of the salary cap era.

In addition to his 2 Stanley Cups, Phil Kessel added his second Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP, with 8G and 10A in 22 games. Linemate and team captain Sidney Crosby amassed 5G and 11A, and Cory Schneider was lights out, earning a sparkling 1.18 GAA and 0.958 SV%, with 8 shutouts. Many thought Schneider was robbed of the Conn Smythe, but he may not have had room in his trophy case, after picking up the Vezina, Ted Lindsay, and Hart Memorial trophies for the second time in as many years.

The first two rounds played out almost identically to last year: for the second straight year, the Stars faced off against the Nashville Predators in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and for the second straight year, Dallas swept their Western Conference rival in 4 games. Cory Schneider posted 3 straight shutouts in the series win.

Once again, the Stars met the Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference Semifinals. With many believing the Stars to be a lock for a second straight Finals appearance, last year saw Dallas fall to the Wild in 5 games, a huge blow to a team with high aspirations. This year was shaping up for a repeat, with the Stars trailing both the series and game six 3-2. Trailing late in the third, Dallas coach Gordon Bombay called a timeout; behind a tenacious forechecking effort, the Stars finally broke through with 56.6 seconds left to play on a beautiful individual effort from Duncan Keith. After forcing OT, it was Keith's blueline partner P.K. Subban who struck on a one time feed from Sidney Crosby to send the series to a 7th game that Dallas would go on to win 2-1.

Capitals trade off non-future pieces

Mike Ribeiro has been good to the Caps over the years, but has been traded to the Detroit Red Wings.

We shipped off all the remaining players that we wont be going into the future with. We tried to trade Vinny Lecavalier but no one would still take on his contract. We still have him for another year after this. So we really did screw ourselves signing him back then (knew it would come back to bite me). 2 deals broken down below:

Both are NHL and AHL teams aren't having great seasons, which is of course disappointing. Especially for are AHL Club, but maybe we can turn things around in the remainder of the season.

Just wondering, do you guys play with injuries on or off? what about waivers? because it seem whenever i start a new gm 4 players are out with injuries quarter way through the season..it gets really annoying.

With injuries off, I never thought to turn waivers off, does it make much of a difference in that scenario?

I always leave injuries off now, even with them on and turned down as low as they go, I can't go one playoff series with seeing "X will be out for the next 3-4 months" 6 times in the transaction news.

Unless I'm actually playing the game (vs. simming), in which case I'll take my chances on P.K. Subban wrecking Ovechkin and knocking him out of the playoffs like he last year... :laugh:

Quebec City Drafts Pure Sniper

The Blizzards selected Norwegian elite sniper Darcy Tamer 3rd overall in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

The Blizzards had another good year that ended with a play-off elimination by their rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. Quebec City captured 6 trophies during the year that included a President's Trophy, a Hart Memorial Trophy from their captain Jonathan Huberdeau, a James Norris Trophy from TJ Brennan who had a break-out year, a Calder Memorial Trophy won by Audy-Marchessault and a Veniza Trophy and a Ted Lindsay Award both won by Jacob Markstrom after having his career's best year in net.

Quebec City obtained Edmonton's 1st overall draft pick in this year's draft during the Trade Deadline while the Oilers were sitting last in the NHL. They finished 28th in the end and the Blizzards ended up picking 3rd in the draft. They did not pick like previous years as they opted for two smaller players since they believe they already have a good core of big players and needed a little bit of a scoring touch. They tried to solve their offensive problems by drafting a pure sniper and an offensive defenseman. Their 3rd overall selection was actually ranked first on their draft board so they were quite happy to see that he fell to them. They made two notable picks, one in the first round and one in the second.

1 (3) â€“ Darcy Tamer - 19 / 5â€™9â€ / 174 lbs / LW / SNP / TPS Turku (Finland) / Norway / 4.5 Stars

For the third time in 3 years, the Blizzards opted to pick an over-ager with their first choice in the NHL entry draft. The Blizzards obtained Edmontonâ€™s first overall pick at the trade deadline and it ended up being the 3rd overall selection at the draft. Even though they weren't picking first, they were still able to select the guy who was rated first on their list, Darcy Tamer. The Norwegianâ€™s skill level had always been there but his small size scared scouts away during his first year of draft eligibility. However, Tamer was able to prove that his small stature did not change the way he played at all. In fact, Darcy started out the year in Norway playing for Lillehammerâ€™s menâ€™s team but after scoring 12 points in 6 games, TPS Turku approached him and signed him to a contract for the remainder of the season. He started out in the SM-Liigaâ€™s junior league but only played two games because after scoring 5 goals in his second game, he got moved to the menâ€™s team. He stayed on TPSâ€™ menâ€™s team for the rest of the season and play-offs. He was also the most dominant sniper of the league for his time being there averaging about 1.5 points per game. He also represented Norway at the international level on 2 occasions, first with the U20 team where he scored 21 points in the Div. 1 tournament and then at World Championships where he had 5 points in 5 games playing against some of the best players in the world. The power of his wrist shot is comparable to that of top NHL players such as Alexander Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos. He is set to make his NHL debut next season and if he adapts properly, Tamer could become one of the leagueâ€™s deadliest snipers in no time.

Olivier Leblanc is your typical offensive defenseman. He likes to score goals and does a great job on the powerplay. His defensive game is very poor but he will get the chance to work on it in the AHL before making the jump to the NHL. Leblanc also represented Canada at the World Junior Championships where he helped them capture a Gold Medal with his 7 points in 6 games.

I play with injuries off for the most, and the waivers I have seened players like J.Staal, E.Staal, J.Skinner, M.Savard, R.Miller and more of those gone through so I gonna take that off also.

If I'm trying to do a difficult dynasty (realistic transactions, etc) I usually play injuries on waivers off. If I'm just trying to have some quick fun I usually go both on, but occasionally both off.

Well even with injuries off, the CPU sends down players when they trade for a new player and they want more cap space. I always forget to turn off waivers, and at the trade deadline of my Canucks GM, San Jose sent down Brent Burns because they traded for Bryan Allen :facepalm:

This series was much closer than the last one for the Vancouver Canucks. Both games one and two went into overtime, and they both ended in favor of Vancouver. The series ended in six games, as the Canucks finished off the Red Wings with an absolute blowout in game six. Cory Schneider now has four shutouts through the first two playoff rounds, and has only allowed 14 goals in 10 games. This gives him a 1.43 GAA and a save percentage of .948%. Henrik Sedin leads the team with ten points in ten games, while Jakub Voracek and Chris Higgins have seven points. Daniel Sedin, Ryan Kesler, and Alexander Edler all have scored six points. In the Western Conference Finals, Vancouver will be facing the eighth-seeded St. Louis Blues, who have had a Cinderella Run thus far in the playoffs. The Eastern Conference Finals will showcase the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Islanders - a series that won't require much travel between the two cities.

Predators Return To Playoffs

The Nashville Predators have returned to the playoffs, this time as the 7th seed. They were led to the playoffs by Pekka Rinne and trade deadline acquisition, Joe Thorton, who had 24 goals and 59 assists for 83 points. The Predators record was 42-31-9 for 93 points. They will face the 2nd seed Columbus Blue Jackets.
