New Jersey(No Fanz!)
Boyle isn’t good in this system. He’s too slow. Bratt is a child who is either exhausted or his pixie dust is gone. Palmieri is a shell of what he was last year for some reason.

I say it's more of the former. He needs a break to recharge his batteries.

Pixie Dust? Bratt is a unicorn. He's MADE of Pixie-dust.

You aren’t wrong but there is also the team philosophy and structure. The team as constructed is not really built to win 2-1. They don’t play the heavy game. They are supposed to out chance and hence our score he opposition. Right now they don’t have enough skilled players to do that. A healthy MarJo and Gibbons probably make a difference in at least two of the bad down the stretch games they’ve had. Not to mention. A healthy Corey. Hall and to a lesser extent Nico and Palms can only do so much.
Honestly, when the team hasn't been allowing a lot of shots, they should be able to win games like the Columbus game 2-1, if they were able to win any game 2-1 this season, outside of the Pittsburgh game which we did win 2-1. We should be able to nurse a game like this to OT 2-2.

The bad goals are killing us, they're sinking us and sometimes they're even deflating the team. It didn't happen the last two games though.

Now that you mention it....I'm starting to have that bad feeling, too. That trip may end up being the Knockout blow to our playoff hopes.

Which is why is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL to get points(I don't care if it's one point in the upcoming games) before that trip.
How many times have you guys said “I have a bad feeling x is going to sink us”!

Stop already. This team has earned the benefit of faith.

Definitely.

Part of that reason is that Cory isn't great anymore, so we need better than this spittoon (it's surely not a PLATOON) or Kinkaid. Because we probably don't want Cory starting 60-65 games next year and Kinkaid has been feces even in the backup role this year, which is why he was stapled to the bench for a month and we played Cory in back to backs, including against Buffalo. If Kinkaid hadn't laid a giant deuce against the Rags at MSG in December, he would have no doubt gotten a start or two in between then and when he eventually did start again.

The organization needs to banish him after this year. His NHL career is likely over, unless he finds his way back into the league like Stalock did last year and they make him the permanent backup the next year.

Yea I once had high hopes for Kinkaid, but it looks like he's destined to be one of those guys who fades from the league and only reappears for really bad teams that are going through 6 goalies that year. His athleticism is very good but he just doesn't track the puck all that well, gets flustered leading to goals in bunches, and doesn't play a disciplined style.

Also, I have no idea how anyone can lay the majority of the blame on our defense when the goaltending has been sub .900 for a period of time that can’t be passed off as a small sample size.
Eye test also tells us that too many of these goals are stoppable.

We're seeing soft goals go in at a rate now that's higher than it's been since Hedberg was here in the lockout season. 2014 Marty wasn't that good, but he wasn't THIS bad.

He's one of those Johnson, Montoya, Stalock, Enroth types that don't last in the league very long. They usually have a good season, then a bad season, then a good season, then bad again, repeat.

Montoya seems to have his good seasons in contract years and he has that former 6th overall pick (LOL Rangers) attached to him. Johnson has already washed out of the league once, Stalock has also, Enroth is done. That's why I'd be annoyed if we traded for Johnson or one of those guys, because it's more of the same Lack and Kinkaid bullshit goaltending that we've seen. Mike Condon is another one that's currently the same. Carter Hutton is probably another, but is having a career year, that's way unsustainable. It also helps that he has a useless, piece of shit starter in Jake Allen.

I think we need to roll the dice on a guy like Aaron Dell or maybe a guy that's been a starter but isn't a good starter anymore, but is still good enough to be a backup. Halak stinks as a starter, but even he's been better this year, behind the worst defense in the league.

Goaltending is letting us down but failed clears and botched scoring chances are close behind.
I think Andy Greene should be shut down for the rest of the year, because I think he's already hit his minutes played capabilities on the season. 60 games of 20 minutes is pretty much nuking him.

If he's gonna play 82 games a year, it needs to be at 16 minutes a night, like Lovejoy has been playing.

And that means Lovejoy needs to go away..... For good.

Goaltending is #1. Followed closely by inability to properly clear the zone and a horrendous power play. Both of which really could be combined and clsssified as mediocre coaching.

Goaltending and coaching has cost us many points, imo.

We need a new power play coach after this year. I'm pretty much done with Ward.

I'm not a fan of Hynes, but I think he's been let down by poor goaltending recently. Even though he stuck with Kinkaid too long (and Lack has had one terrible game, one really great game and one dud tonight, as far as his starts go), I think he has good eye for goaltending, despite other personnel decisions that have been suspect. I also applaud him for verbally shitting all over these two goalies in the post game, without completely throwing them under the bus. You know if he has any input at all, he's telling Shero ''Get Kinkaid the f*** out of here and get me somebody better to backup Schneider next year/fill in for Schneider if he goes on the IR or isn't very good anymore''.

I feel like most coaches have a pretty good assessment of goaltending more than other positions, because first of all, it's the most important position in hockey and having a bad goalie is gonna do much more harm to us than having a bad Lovejoy on the ice for 16-17 minutes a night or a terrible anchor on forward stinking up the joint. And goaltending has also gotten many a head coach fired, and it will get many more fired. Bad goaltending gets coaches fired, so I think they have a decent eye for stuff like that, since they know they can't f*** around with goaltending like they can other positions.

All joking aside, I'd like to Ask Dano why we struggle for dear life to clear our zone so often.

I truly believe it’s a coaching issue. They fail to clear because they try to force a clean breakout all the time without regard for the situation. That’s either something he coaching staff wants them to be doing, or the coaching staff is failing to hold players accountable for behaving irresponsibly in their own end. Either way that falls on the coaching.

Dano and Sal do talk about using the boards and glass more often.

You're probably right.

So the PP struggled again? Color me shocked. I couldn't see any of this game, sounds like I was better off. You would think at SOME point one of the coaching staff braniacs would decide to change things up a little and actually put guys in position to slam one-timers. We're too easy to defend on the PP, especially since zone entry's a joke to begin with.

If he's as approachable as Chico was after broadcasts in the lounge, you probably could and he would give you an honest answer
He's very approachable, but he's a little more homerish. Like for instance, he'd probably tell you that Andy Greene is still good, whereas Chico, completely off the record would say something ''Yeah, I don't know anymore, but yeah Andy's seen some better days. I think they wouldn't mind moving on from him after this year, if they could find a way''.

Just giving an example, not sure that's how either really feel about said player.

Chico is a real sweetheart, but very blunt. He won't say anything to defame the player as a person, but he'll definitely call it like it is in regards to a player's capabilities. Like if I were to ask Chico to tell me all the goals that he thought the goalies should have had over the last couple weeks, I'd bet his assessment would be somewhere in the same neighborhood as mine. On TV or the radio he might try to look for something to absolve or soften the blame. ''Well it looked like he might have gotten screened slightly on that shot or he was thinking pass'' or something like that, but him and other former goalies know.

And the usual SOFT game winning goal against, this time on Lack.

I swear, if Kinkaid gets back in there on Patty night, he better not let us down with his usual non-Hurricanes brand of play. If Scott Clemmensen can deliver a solid performance on Dano night, one of the only quality starts he had over those two seasons, Kinkaid should be able to deliver.

Or there's gonna be 16520 (or whatever the capacity is now, used to be 17200 I think) ANGRY people in the crowd. Including two people flying up from Tampa and Jacksonville, Florida for the game, like yours truly and @Cage Helmet

And he'll be a lot more angrier than I will, he doesn't do too well when he goes multiple days without his fiancee.:P

They should run a softie ice cream truck business when they retire. Can't wait till Cory comes back. Jesus, I can't believe the points that were thrown out the last couple of games on this garbage.

Tonight's game seemed particularly frustrating as we had a 2-0 gap on them, things seemed in control more or less, and I went to put the kids to bed thinking i wouldn't miss much, and came down it was 2-3 for Christ's sake. Okay Moore put one in with his dumb ass hand, but you can't make this shit up every game its something.

Did they have chances to capitlize after? Yes, but pretty much Minn locked down the neutral zone/blue line the entire 3rd period sans maybe the first 6 mins.
