They need the cap now to bridge Kakko. Buyout wouldn’t have helped them until next summer. 2nd round pick is dumb as it was in the Staal trade. Maybe The Rangers like Emberson? It is what it is. This was always going to be a lousy contract and now they are paying for it.

The Copp trade was only 'bad' in hindsight. It was objectively good that we made it as far as we did.

As far as free agency; if anything, Dru showing restraint and not displaying a "must sign him now, because lost assets" mindset is a good thing. Copp was injury prone and not a tried and true centerman.

Don't know what Emberson's value is today, but I'd expect it's less then a 3rd. Isn't looking like a future NHLer.
