That 99 Knicks team doesn't even get to the finals w/o that Allan Houston bounce in game 5 of the first round against Miami. I think they were very close to firing Van Gundy and I think had to win something like 7 out of their last 8 games just to qualify for the playoffs. On paper they probably should have been swept by Miami.
As for Reggie and Patrick thats an interesting thought, guess it would depend on their supporting cast. What I do know is a lot of Knick fans who remember the Ewing years mention the team ****ed up when they let Xavier McDaniel go and brought in Charles Smith to replace him. I'm not sure about the story here but Smith is notorious for getting blocked like 5 times in a row against the Bulls in 1993.
Haha I remember that shot. His celebration after was epic. That was real basketball. 78-77 there was defense and the game was close throughout. Teams went to the rack. Houston was an underrated player. I wish he played in today's game he would be an amazing 3 point shooter.
Miami and Knicks in the late 90s was quite the rivalry. Think they met in the playoffs 3 years in a row. They had a brawl at the garden. That's another thing. Back then there were rivalries. Teams to watch. Made good playoff series. Now there isn't a possible playoff series that screams excitement although I guess Spurs and Thunder is the closest thing though without Westbrook the Thunder are nothing.
I just remember they went 1-2 and its the only time the Knicks won the lottery. They had a few epic playoff battles. People of today's NBA don't know what they were missing.
