That 99 Knicks team doesn't even get to the finals w/o that Allan Houston bounce in game 5 of the first round against Miami. I think they were very close to firing Van Gundy and I think had to win something like 7 out of their last 8 games just to qualify for the playoffs. On paper they probably should have been swept by Miami.

As for Reggie and Patrick thats an interesting thought, guess it would depend on their supporting cast. What I do know is a lot of Knick fans who remember the Ewing years mention the team ****ed up when they let Xavier McDaniel go and brought in Charles Smith to replace him. I'm not sure about the story here but Smith is notorious for getting blocked like 5 times in a row against the Bulls in 1993.

Haha I remember that shot. His celebration after was epic. That was real basketball. 78-77 there was defense and the game was close throughout. Teams went to the rack. Houston was an underrated player. I wish he played in today's game he would be an amazing 3 point shooter.

Miami and Knicks in the late 90s was quite the rivalry. Think they met in the playoffs 3 years in a row. They had a brawl at the garden. That's another thing. Back then there were rivalries. Teams to watch. Made good playoff series. Now there isn't a possible playoff series that screams excitement although I guess Spurs and Thunder is the closest thing though without Westbrook the Thunder are nothing.

I just remember they went 1-2 and its the only time the Knicks won the lottery. They had a few epic playoff battles. People of today's NBA don't know what they were missing.

Kobe Bryant said it's been hard to watch the Los Angeles Lakers as they've struggled in his absence, but it turns out he doesn't like watching the NBA in general with the way it is currently being played and officiated across the league.

"It's more of a finesse game," Bryant said before the Lakers played the Chicago Bulls on Monday. "It's more small ball, which, personally, I don't really care much for. I like kind of smash-mouth, old-school basketball because that's what I grew up watching. I also think it's much, much less physical. Some of the flagrant fouls that I see called nowadays, it makes me nauseous. You can't touch a guy without it being a flagrant foul."

Exatly

From the mid to late 90s, we had lower scores but games where physical and intense

Those NYK-Heat series were great

Same thing with the 95 Finals; very defensive, but very intense as well

As for Houston, too bad he had an injury early in his career; before the injury, he wasn't just a great shooter, he was a great scorer as he was very explosive when attacking the rim

This was the worst time for the NBA since the 70's. Less skill, low scoring, awful, awful basketball.

But you can elbow them in the face AND get free throws, eh Kobe...

You're too defensive about it. Didn't Klay Thompson score 30 points in a quarter last season? Like that odds are good he won't shoot 6-7 from downtown in a quarter again. Even if he did its still not a very likely occurrence for any player really.

This is another thing about today's game. The 3 ball inflates scoring averages and stats.

Shooting a basketball is actually a highly failing proposition. Most players will miss way more shots than the make.

Would you actually be surprised if Curry goes 6/7 from 3 in a quarter again? I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he did.

This is arguably the greatest shooter in history that we're witnessing.

Yes I would. Unless every shot was uncontested. Most pro guys won't miss a wide open triple.

Ray Allen would be amazing in today's game if the 3 ball was as important in his career.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised in anything Curry does at this point, it's not a "hot stretch".

You also seem to give off the impression that you think all he does is shoot 3s.

But then you also claim to hate the NBA but are constantly in here talking about it. Why are you continuing to watch something that you don't enjoy?

The finals between the Bulls and Jazz were great. Both went 6 games and the Bulls won it with a buzzer beater. We haven't had a good one since really. Maybe Lakers and Celtics. Nets and Spurs in 03 was alright. It could have gone itherway but in the last 20 years the finals haven't been good. Even last year outside of 2 OT games the series was overall boring for the most part. Spurs and Heat was alright but the Spurs gave it away.

Spurs Pistons was good

At least if you are a Spurs fan like me

Fun fact : the day before game 5, I told my buddy, who's a Pistons fan, that Horry will win the game with a clutch 3.

Omg I laughed so hard when it actually happened

I think my interest in the NBA peaked in the 90s, but I still somewhat enjoyed cheering against shaq/Kobe and the Lakers into the 2000s. Then I really liked watching the high octane suns with Steve Nash at the helm.

Later, I liked to cheer against the heat in the lebron era, but since he left Cleveland, I really don't have a team that I really want to cheer against, or a team that I want to cheer for.

So I have contributed to the ratings drop, I suppose.

I agree with Barkley. Since Jordan retired from the Bull in 98 the quality has steadily gone down. I liked rooting for Kobe's Lakers and Duncan's Spurs, but those 2 players are not what they used to be. Unless the Spurs go to the Finals, I won't watch.

The league's personalities are boring these days too.

Jordan had the greek god aura about him, but LeBron seems way too mortal and petty.

Barkley, Rodman, Shaq, etc. all had big personalities. So did Magic. Bird was Bird.

The guys now are just either boring or annoying. Game just felt more exciting in the late 80s/90s.

The game is just soft too nowadays. Too perimeter oriented.

There's also no villain. We had a bunch of those in the 90s
