I think this was a mistake. He obviously wasnt gonna be successful on the 3 and 4 lines playing against goons and agitators. Ruff ruined his career with his decision. I could see him as a pp specialist.. He holds his own down low by the boards very impressive. I think he deserved to be on the second line. my 2 cents

Ruff took him off the top 6 lines because he didn't deserve to be on them. Who should he have played in the top 6 over? Gerbe's career was ruined when his back was injured.

I always felt Gerbe's ideal situation would be a scoring winger on a team that rolls 3 scoring lines. Not quite good enough to be a top 6 winger, not big enough to play a traditional bottom 6 role (even if he has improved quite a bit defensively).

That really limits his options in terms of finding the right fit for him to succeed.

I think Florida, NY Islanders, and Philly would be my bets for where he catches on. He's had some degree of success against the Panthers in a small sample, scoring 4 goals in 9 games against them, and of course there's the Dineen connection. He's also done well against the Islanders, scoring 5 times in 11 games against them, and could be a low-risk winger that the Isles seemingly love signing. Finally, if he's willing to sign on the cheap, Philly may be interested; who could forget him terrorizing the Flyers late in 2010-11 and in that playoff series.

Doesn't matter. With the team's move in the last couple years toward playing a "heavy" game ala the Bruins and Kings, Gerbe's days were numbered. The only question: if he could show enough offense at this level he might get a trade. Otherwise the buyout was a fait accompli.

Ennis will be our token smurf going forward due to his high talent level.

Roy - gone
Byron - gone
Gerbe - gone
Briere - gone because of hurr durrr

Who am I forgetting?

Off the top of my head, Catenacci is the only clear sub-6 foot guy in the system. There are some 5'11/6 foot guys but that's about average. Oh, and Enroth might be the shortest goalie in the league if that counts.

Thank you. :yo:

Yeah, we're going average-to-plus size in our picks. It was swell when all those midget 5th rounders tore up the A and even got ROTY and gave us hope, but how well did that ever translate? We never got our St Louis. We never even got our Conacher. We got... those other guys.

Gerbe made his own bed by behaving like a little goon. He needs to learn self-control and cut out the extra-curricular crap.

Two-way contract, eh? I guess the rest of the league didn't share Nate's opinion about how well he was playing last season.

I look at it more as another one of Regier's Pegula era contract failures.

None of us thought he was going to get a one way contract, right?

I thought he would get more than minimum though. Maybe 600k. ha ha

Even with the buyout money, still a drop for him over the $1.85M he would have gotten this year.

Peters stated on WGR that Gerbe was a great team guy.

Do you think the other players thought the same thing when he complained about his ice time?

It'll be interesting to see if he's able to fully rehab whatever it was that Bourdon did and the procedure to repair it. He was not cleared at the start of camp due to the recovery, so a full summer (and part of the spring :biglaugh: ) off should give him the time to be fully healed. Now what remains to be seen is if he has the confidence to go among the trees again or if he's still going to throw 59' wrist shots on net as he steps over the blueline while curling back out of the zone. That **** won't work in the AHL, let alone the NHL.
