The sad truth is no one expected Morin to be more than a third pairing defenseman who could add physicality, PK ability and above average defense.

What we got was Hakstol the beet farmer trying to ruin his career by playing some of the worst players this organisation has ever seen over him.

Then when he finally makes it all the way back, AV in his infinite wisdom decides he's a LW. Gtfo here.

All the kid needs is a chance to prove he's infinitely better than Hagg. Which he's done after a single game.

He's going to make mistakes, plenty of them. But he gives this team something they sorely lack.

Don't think you can prove much after two games.
And Hagg was playing well (for a 3rd pair guy) when he was injured. Best stretch of his career.

Revisionist history, Hextall stated he expected to play Hagg, Sanheim and Morin that year, then Morin got injured just when an opportunity to play opened up.
We simply don't know how he would have played 3 years ago, and since then he was never healthy enough to have a real shot.

They picked Hagg over Morin to start the season. Morin blow out his knee playing for the phantoms when he should have been on the NHL roster over Manning and Hagg. The irony in you calling revisionist history wont be lost on anyone.

Morin could have blown his knee out in the NHL, given he blew it out twice, it was almost inevitable.
Hagg could play both sides, Morin was strictly LHD.

Yup. Morin was healthy before being sent down in 2017, so his eventual injury is no excuse.

They chose Hagg over Morin and Sanheim to start that season. Nothing other than their failed evaluation is to blame.

Sanheim was the only one of the three who was a slam dunk starter, ironically, he'd have been best served with more AHL time to work on his D-zone skills. That's the problem with thin rosters, you've often have to force feed young players.

Morin and Hagg were both adventures, and Hextall was clear about wanting to play both of them, going into 2017-18, I don't think he really expected them to be a playoff team. So he was happy to give all three PT and see what he had.

88 points the year before, and he traded Schenn that off-season. So expectations were low.
Then G is moved to LW with Couts and Voracek, and G and Voracek have their best season since 2014-15. Ghost has his career year.
TK and Simmonds each pump in 24 goals.
Elliott and Neuvirth almost make it to the finish line.

Playing in the ahl playoffs I believe. He was called up and had been playing through something. Hextall flipped out. I remember reading hextall thought he was trying to get on nhl injured reserve. Was sent back down and barely played the rest of the season till hextall publicly stated that players neeed to play through little injuries in the playoffs. So Morin came back played then blew out his knee

Hextall wanting to treat Morin and Hagg as equals at any point is just more proof of his shit ability to assess pro players

Manning in 2017 actually had a pretty solid season, the next year he started to fall off the cliff.

love it. Shame the league has gone the way of wanting 18 Simon Gagne's on every roster.

Amen. 6/7. PK. Give Sam 10 minutes a game just because he plays the game right.

Morin blew out his knee in the AHL playoffs when the Flyers season was already over. Sanheim and Lindblom also played in that Phantoms playoff run. Sanheim also hurt his knee, but much less seriously.

He barely played on the Phantoms cause of the groin injury he was trying to play thru earlier in the season, and then had to spend months rehabbing. There was no punishment involved, and the knee injury he suffered had no relation to his previous ailment.

The injured reserve story sounds like an invention cause you don’t get put on NHL IR for an injury suffered in the AHL. The Flyers didn’t have to keep Morin on the roster once they found out he was not actually fit to play. Hextall was mad at Morin because he hadn’t fully disclosed to them what he was dealing with, but that was never going to get him extra NHL money.
