Montreal Canadiens players carrying Bruins Woody Dumart off the ice as he prepares to go to war. Probably seen this photo a hundred times but it's awesome.

Help!

I'm trying to definitively identify the Cleveland (most likely - could possibly be Jacksonville) goaltender in the photo at the start of this Twitter thread.

Thanks! It's definitely not Kurt, who caught right.

As Bear of Bad News pointed out, it definitely is not Gary Kurt due to the wrong catching hand. I should have caught that one for pete's sake.:shakehead
I located a team picture of the Cleveland Barons from 1969-70 which includes goalie Gerry Gray wearing #1. However, although the striping on the jersey is the same, the logo doesn't quite match that in the original twitter picture. Hopefully someone can solve the mystery of who the goalie actually is.

I appreciate it! My current leader in the clubhouse is that it's Ernie Wakely, who started his time with the Barons barefaced:

But appears to have switched to a mask right before the end of his Cleveland career:

The mask he wore isn't clear at all in this photo, and the mask in the unknown photo is not what he would wear in St. Louis the following fall. However, he wore #1, caught left, and the tape job on his stick consistently matches the one in the photo (which is less notable other than that the Rivard, Gray, and Ouimet tape jobs do not match the one in the photo as far as I can tell).

I'm still not convinced that it's Wakely, though. Would love more evidence.

The ceremonial first faceoff in the inaugural home game in Buffalo Sabres history, 10-15-1970

Taking the faceoff are Floyd Smith (who would later coach the Sabres in their 1975 Stanley Cup Final season) and Jean Beliveau (in his final season as a player)

Thats fun.... and I guess you know why Floyd's smiling, giggling a bit as is Beliveau, a few others?.... Seems after rolling out the red carpet, dignitaries on-hand & all ready.... no puck. One of the Sabre Trainer having to go fetch one delaying the drop... also in the frame Clarence Campbell, Seymour Knox III, Buffalo Mayor Frank Sedita & Bill Molson, one of a few branches of the Molson family who owned the Habs from 64/71.... not sure who the 5th suited guy is.... You know?

Guys if it's cool to ask/request this pic if it exists, would there be a pic of Howe and Richard mid-handshake after one of their playoff series? That would be an awesome one to see!

Not the greatest quality unfortunately, and probably not the one you're looking for.

Not really a photo so much as a graphic for an article that appeared in the Winnipeg Tribune on July 15, 1972. this was almost two months before the Summit Series, and as you can see, and apparently these were the top four players the editor decided to represent Canada. Bobby, of course, couldn't play.

Awesome photos,
1951 – Goalie all alone

Looks like some head gear on this guy, any idea where this is, looks like a fairly large arena as well. This thread brings back some memories but also keeps bringing up aspects of hockey history that I have to go look up myself. Thanks, RGO!

Thanks for this, an amazing photo!! The goaltender has a skirt over her goalie-pads....

If this is indeed at the Vancouver Arena, the location is where Georgia Street meets Denman Street today, in the north-west end of downtown Van, at Devonian Harbour Park. Great stuff.
