Why in the hell would St. Louis trade arguably their best player with term left for a declining pending UFA as the main piece?

There are rumours St Louis is thinking about selling, but nothing firm.
Like the Flyers, they'll probably wait until they're sure the season is lost.

Trade value tends to go up in late January when GMs know they have a good shot at the playoffs so an overpay won't be throwing away assets, and there are more firm suitors for players.

I think simmer has more value than we think as well. I’d say we think he has a 1st plus B prospect value, so he may have more than that. Maybe stl is looking to get him and play him to build his value and then flip him. Maybe they actually want him for leadership qualities etc. The leafs would likely pay a high price for Simmonds.

Hard to fathom Simmer has that much value after watching him last night. I love the guy but he looks done.

Petey for Simmer seems ridiculously bad for St.Louis. The add would be huge.

Toronto makes some sense for toughness but he's not bumping anybody out of their PP1, so that diminished his appeal somewhat.

Hard to imagine Dubas hasn't looked at his declining production like we have.
