Good for Sneep, I assume he'll have a better shot in Houston. Doesnt neccessarily indicate more moves are on the way though. He got a cup of coffee last year and this year hes AHL depth/ECHL starter. Let him get a shot somewhere else to work his way up?

Kolarik for Ferriero sounds like we want a good AHL scorer because we want the Baby Pens to do better, and the Rangers probably want a guy that can be depth for thier NHL team. He played enough for the Sharks Im sure he can be a fourth line guy for Torts in a pinch.

Good moves. Now let's go big. Let's get Subban. Orpik, Despres and Pouliot should get it done.

i'm crushed. i'm probably this board's biggest Sneep enthusiast. those in the know will know it was his ACT score that brought him down.

I love how the ESPN New York reporter has to cite anonymous sources for the Kolarik/Ferriero trade -- a full half-hour after the team already announced it on its official web site.

she was the Islanders' former beat writer. not surprising how the quality of one's reportage takes a hit after joining ESPN

I think Ferriero can be serviceable when/if he's called up. Wouldn't count on him sticking, but he won't be a train wreck when he's in the lineup.

He was a train wreck in Wilkes Barre. I guess this is what it took to stop Hynes from force feeding him ice time.

Exactly. Point is, he obviously didn't fit this system. Doesn't take away that he's a decent NHL tweener.

Which is something the Pens don't need. Hopefully Kolarik is what Shero thought Smith would be. We need an AHLer scorer to place with the young guys to kick up the offensive production.

Not sure where he fits yet, since he seems like a smaller guy with a questionable defensive game. Wouldn't want to pair him with BB except for the PP.

Would laugh and call Shero a genius if this guy can become gold on the PP and Morrow starts ripping them into the net....I'm being very optimistic here :naughty:

But....but....Shero sucks.

He got nothing for Strait.....wasted 3rd round pick

And now....

He got a conditional 7th for a 2nd round pick.

Geeeeeeeez how does this guy still have a job?!

The irony is he got something, albeit very little (nothing if Sneep doesn't see NHL games), for Sneep, while nothing for Strait. I would have thought it would have been the opposite, with Strait garnering at least a conditional pick, and Sneep being given away for free.

If Dallas wanted to take a chance on a defenseman, why Sneep and not Strait?

Not sure if I want that attitude on our team. Good player but always puts himself first

There are some people who believe that, and then there are others who say the exact opposite.

He's a player you win with, that's all I know. Our team could use a little personality, too. We've become extremely bland.

Another Shero 2nd rounder bites the dust . . .

Lucic, Kulemin, McGinn, Anisomov . . . :(

10 out of 30 guys are regular NHL guys making varying levels of real to significant impact.

I don't believe Shero ever offered Strait up for a trade. The idea was that Strait would pass through waivers and we would keep him (at least I hope that's what the intention was). Shero took a risk and lost.

As a side note, I don't think Sneep is as bad as most people on here do.

ya I'd take Subban in a heartbeat. Obviously it depends on the cost in both assets and actual salary but in general he's a player I would love to have on our team.

upcoming poll: worst Shero (and for that matter Penguins going back to the late 80s) 2nd round bust. it's a brutal list

This one might be it when you consider the alternatives. One third of that round had guys making a major or significant impact. Another five are/were regulars in bottom roles in the league.

Agreed.

Only problem with your trade proposal is that Orpik isn't headed to Montreal.

If you wanted to say Niskanen and Despres and something, then I could see that.

Well i really doubt they want Sneep for there NHL team, and if they claimed Strait, they couldn't send him down to the AHL

Sid says 'thanks'.

And, lest we forget, he did take a forward in the first round that year, the next year (2007), and 2010. Saying 'forwards isn't how he rolls' isn't close to as accurate as saying 'he prefers to take defensemen in the second and third rounds'.

You might add Joensuu in blue : 60 games in NHL, should be playing this year but is currently injured.

Crosby was Patrick right? Though I do not doubt Shero would have taken him if he was handling the draft. Well 99% sure anyways.

Edit 2007 was Esposito. I blocked him out, but yes he did go forward.

2010 also.

That said, Shero's preference for defensemen absent almost having his hand forced is undeniable and it shows in the organization.
