I mean that current raspy voice is so much more suited to rock. The video of the Howard Stern performance on Youtube had a comment that compared her to Marianne Faithfull. The comments in general were all glowing. But of course HFBoards gotta do HFBoards...

People hate her because of how she made her name as a teenager. If she came out of left field at 25 making the music she's making, there wouldn't be anything like this kind of blowback.

I am probably one of the older people here, I grew up in the Bay Area in the 80's. I worked at one the first hard rock/metal station in the country, KVHS, a high school radio station, from 84-86 until I graduated HS. I was able to meet most of the metal acts in the area like Metallica, Exodus, Death Angel, Laaz Rockit. I was just 16 or 17, so I didn't know them personally at all, but I remember the Metallica guys were by far the nicest. I was literally scared to be around Death Angel, not just the band but the people around them.

This was my Metallica.

But that's a Blitzkrieg song.

Is it a hot take to say that I think …AJFA is the best album? I’m in the camp of “I love the first 5 albums, anything after is hit or miss”

I am hoping the band has one more album of original music in them. After Hardwired to self destruct some members hinted it might be their last album. Last I read was this article, Lars Ulrich says Metallica are making "glacial" progress on their new album — Kerrang! and at the time 9 months ago Lars said they were making "glacial" progress on new music.

They've made a lot of progress writing during the pandemic because there wasn't much else to do but Metallica from 1991-now takes a very long time to write/arrange/argue/record/mix/master. I'd expect something maybe 2023 at earliest. And when I say argue I don't mean it as a sign of disrespect, they get very energic/emotional concerning arrangements and song structures and a lot gets changed.

I'm hoping for maybe 2 and at most 3 more if they go this entire decade.

Fair enough, but they were playing it live as early as '82. Our station played a version that wasn't available to the public, was pretty cool for a high school station looking back at it. :)

As far as originals go then, here would be the Metallica that got me into them until about 2000.

Love it. Love that record too. Definitely raw by metal standards but I'm a huge punk fan as well and compared to punk metal doesn't even know the meaning of raw.

The songs are awesome, and can at least compete with anything they ever did IMO. The recording quality is absolutely horrible. Everyone knows how the bass got cut out almost completely, but lost in that is how f***ing atrocious Lars' drums sound.

I mean, listen to Harvester of Sorrow on the record, and then compare it to this:

Night and day. Christ, after watching that for the umpteenth time now I want to grow my hair out again. Any advice as to how to sneak that by the wife?

Definitely appreciate them. Everyone here listens to bands who were influenced or inspired by Metallica. Two of my favorite bands wouldn't be the same without them. (Orbit Culture, Gojira)

That small show in San Francisco, they actually played Fuel at the proper tempo and it sounds amazing. I don't even know if they've ever done it at the album tempo live, it it's always sped up way too damn much.
