matthews was also crap last year when babs took nylander off his wing.
He did fine without Melander to start this season, right up until the injury.

If you keep getting injured, you get gun shy. I find him gun shy.He got reinjured. He always goes into all the areas when healthy.

Let’s start with topping 70 points. Here we have a bunch of posters who expect Matthews to score 70 goals in 70 games.
Matthews will get his points during the regular season - and lots of them. He's too good and the team around him (offensively) is too well rounded not to.Here we have a bunch of posters who expect Matthews to score 70 goals in 70 games.

He litterally scored on a one timer for the first time like ever last week.He has not looked the same since the Kronwall hit. I think his shoulder is hurting. He has not snapped a shot in since.
Hes scored, but not sniped.
It's human nature. He's had trouble with his shoulders, he's been injury prone, he's was out for a month plus earlier this year, and luckily dodged another injury against Detroit. He came back played like 5 games hard. Got hit by.. what's his face? Was hard hit and been shy since.

How could he not be gun shy?
I’m concerned that he might be injury prone. McDavid had two 100 point seasons before making 13 mil. There wasn’t excuses. There was action. Two 100 point seasons.Oh I see you're complaining that he got injured. That's even worse.
That's fair and I don't blame him.He doesn't want to risk the reduction in his next contract if injured again.

Matthews at 85% gets 100 points and $10M/yr, so why risk it all during the regular season?
You are right. I agree his shoulder is not 100%.I think he is playing with injury though. He looks a little rigid but maybe it's just me. Just not as nimble
His shot is amazing. The shot he took in the first period, that just missed, was nothing but a blur. He's so talented though and with that shot that it doesn't take much for him to put up some points and really not have a great game.

This team has zero chance of not making the playoffs so why kill themselves.Yeah, I don't mind Matthews playing it safe for any reason. We need him in the PO. In the meantime it would be nice to get Nylander taking up some slack.
A lot will depend on his playoff performance and whether he gets injured (again). Having said that, if another team bids him up, the Leafs hands are tied and they'll write the cheque.I'm ok with that but I honestly think they are going to pay him more which would be a mistake.
What else are we going to talk about?I think hfboards should be locked everytime we lose a game. Over reactions by our fanbase is a disgrace.
