He was supposed to be an upgrade on Hainsey, because Hainsey was like oil and water with the Penguins due to his poor skating and puck moving. Hunwick started out the season really well and looked like a good fit, and then he got hurt and everything went down the drain.

1. Hainsey was a bad fit for the Penguins because he wasn't a strong skater and couldn't move the puck well.
2. Hunwick is a good skater that has fine puck moving talent, therefore he fits the Penguins system better than Hainsey does.
3. Therefore, Hunwick is better for the Penguins than Hainsey was.

Why do Leafs fans have to make all threads about the Leafs? No one cares, this isn't a Leafs thread. Congrats Hainsey has been good for you guys, he didn't fit with the Penguins and most Penguins fans don't miss him.

And now you know how we feel about kessel...

He's better than Hainsey, right Pens fans?

Aren't you one of the Leaf fans who is always crying about how HF picks on the Leafs for no reason?

You think maybe it's because of threads like these where literally every post by a Leaf fan has zero to do with the topic (ie. Hunwick on the block) and everything to do with Hainsey versus Hunwick?

It's fine if you want to comment about Hainsey (even though it's off-topic), but I hope you never again cry about poor Leaf fans getting picked on on HF. You guys sort of bring it on yourselves by posting stuff like you did above.

How fast ye forgets the legend of Rob Scuderi. Hunwick is 100% better now than Scuderi was when we dealt him to Chicago for Daley. I think Scuds was traded again after that too.
Scuderi had a history of being a solid player. Hunwick has a history of being meh.

I'd take him back if you guys take on Martin.

Yes, a worse player with a worse contract for a better player with a better contract is totally a fair deal.

Are people ignoring the salaries that bottom pair defensemen make in hockey today? $2.25 million for Hunwick is perfectly reasonable. His contract isn't bad at all, the Penguins just need cap space and he's redundant. Hunwick will get traded to somewhere like the Islanders for a 4th round pick or a 23 year old borderline NHLer/AHLer.

Plekanec 50% retained + Morrow for Hunwick + 2nd.

Edit: Yes Pleks is retained.

Plekanec @50 for Hunwick + 2nd

It's not like you guys need the cap space this year
Yeah actually I messed up it is Plekanec @50 + Morrow for Hunwick + 2nd.

Apparently there was cap space issues with Plekanec @50 alone.. so Morrow for Hunwick might balance this.

Edit: Also we'd prefer to see Morrow out. ;)

Schlemko (3 years at $2.1 million) to Montreal for a 5th round pick in July of last year is a perfect comparable for what Hunwick is looking at in return. The Penguins don't need to add to get a team to take him, they'll just have to dump him for a mid to late round pick. Gelinas is another comparable, but he was a little bit cheaper ($1.6 million AAV) and a good bit younger. He was also bad, though.
