Fun fact: In the 99-year history of the Bruins organization, Matt Gryzelcyk is the only player to score a goal in a Stanley Cup Final Game 7 on home ice.

And IMO they would've won that series in 5 or 6 if Sundqvist doesn't knock him out with a cowardly headshot in game 2.

But the narrative has become somehow that Gryz is a playoff liability over the years? I don't get it

Talk about facetious...there's only been 1 SCF Game 7 in Boston

14 pts, -18 in 59 games
38 giveaways to 19 takeaways
49 GA to 39 GF
47 ESGA to 26 ESGF

It's the same BS narrative that Gryz and Clifton can't be paired together, meanwhile, they were the main 3rd pair during that 2019 run.

This is the same crowd that wants to push Clifton to the press box for Luke Schenn. Meanwhile, Lead-foot Luke dressed in exactly 19 of 45 playoff games for TB and in those games averaged 10:11 per game, so basically he got in when they dressed 7 D and never played steady minutes. But hey, lets toss him there in place of Clifton cause you know, heaviness.

It's not a "narrative" when theres straight up basic stats that show he's on the ice for significantly more goals against than for during the playoffs

What's with the fan boys annoying basics facts? Now that's an agenda

We have had this discussion dozens of times, and it always comes down to how much one believes in advanced stats compared to “traditional” stats like plus minus. So can we please just save this discussion for some other time.

Like it or not, it's a speed league now and moving further that way every year so guys like Gryz are far more valuable now than they were back in the day (or even back to the last cup run). It's a good signing at a good price.

There's no simple answer. Sometimes he's hurt. Sometimes it's matchups. Sometimes his partner is on the fritz.

Discounting a simple "he sucks in the playoffs", Cassidy's Bruins had trouble scoring 5v5 in the regular season and a real bitch of a time getting it done in the playoffs. And Grzelcyk's TOI is petty much all even strength.

Monty's got these guys firing much better so far. They'll probably top last season's 5v5 goals scored next week. We'll see if the Bruins even strength scoring is going to raise Grzelcyk's ship this spring. If it doesn't, a lot of historically batshit numbers vs reality conjecture will take a big step in pointing out a trend.

The whole if Gryz didn’t get knocked out if the Blues series the Bruins would’ve won in 5 or 6 is getting embarrassing. He was (and still is ) a 3rd paring defenseman. It was a blow to only run 5 defenseman in the game he got knocked out it but acting like he was some huge difference maker is nonsense

Your post explains itself. The fact that he can be taken out to gain advantage is what the problem is.
