Z Michalek would be a nice pick up.

To OTT: Z.Michalek + Vermette

To ARI: Methot + Greening + 4th

Maybe alter this to:

ARI:Methot + Smith + Greening

OTT: Z.Michalek + Vermette

We make a roster spot and clear up a logjam at forward somewhat. We get a bit older but it makes just a bit more room for some prospects at the same time.

Let's get Stone, Michalek, and Dziurzynski :sarcasm:

All this trade talk aside, the best scenario is a healthy Methot signing with Ottawa.

He's a legit top 4 guy and he wants to play in this town. If he's healthy he needs to be signed.

it's unfortunate. he wants to play here, and the management wants to sign him, but the market is prepared to pay him much more than what management believes he's worth

Hypothetically, say the market doesn't bear what Methot is expecting contract-wise and he gets similar offers to the ones he's getting here. Does he say screw it and return to Ottawa?

It does work for Edmonton. Would want the 1st back plus a player/prospect like Klefbom. Could swap Methot for Cowen as well and sign him instead

After being traded?

I still think a trade involving Methot is highly dependent on whether we're in the playoff race or not by deadline day, but yes, for the purposes of the debate let's say including a trade. Would the draw to his hometown and a fanbase that treated him well be enough to make Ottawa appealing enough to return?

We're better with Methot, he's good with EK. We may need to cave and offer more but not now. Wait til the deadline, if we're out - move him. If we're going for the playoffs, then we may need to up the offer. Let him play for a new contract.

I like Methot a lot, hope we keep him. He and Smith have some fun Twitter banter at times too, which is a bonus.

Methot= Michalek
Smith = Vermette

Greening = someone sitting on the bench?

Yes we're older but I'm not sure how we're creating space for prospects.

That is similar to what Michalek did this year.

we need methot.

We need a defenceman LIKE Methot.

Methot just happens to be the most "Methot-like" defenceman we have on our roster at the moment. I'm not 100% against moving Methot, as long as the hole his departure would create would be immediately plugged by another equally-talented blueliner.

We should try and find a defenseman that is more like Methot is that Methot is.
