1) Gagner isn't going anywhere. It's Hemsky all over again, he just doesn't have enough value to warrant dealing him. He'll be on the opening night roster for next season and quite possibly longer if the Oilers take Ekblad. However....
2) Ekblad drops to the Oilers, HFOil rejoices then utter chaos occurs when they pass on him to take Draisaitl and even worse, Calgary sprints to the podium to take Ekblad. HFOil meltdown ensues.
3) MacT makes a strong pitch for Markov and Boyle, strikes out and settles for Derek Morris.
4) They sign Moss who is apparently friends with Gordon. Will try for Komarov but he signs elsewhere.
5) Nurse makes the team, MacT looks to shop Marincin but winds up keeping him and the Oilers will have 3 rookies in the lineup to go along with Schultz, Morris and Ference.
(Bonus One) 6) Schultz gets signed to a Shattenkirk type of deal (overpayment) and Petry gets dealt, not sure for who.

That's pretty much it, no real blockbuster moves unless you consider a Petry deal to be a blockbuster.
I think that MacT will shop Yak, Perron and Marincin to gauge their value but wind up holding on to them.

We'll make 1 big move
We won't get any new significant coaches
Gager will go
Petry and Schultz will stay
Nurse stays up for 9 games and gets sent down
Klefbom starts the year in the AHL.
Marincin starts and finishes the year on the first pairing.
Hopkins comes in at 198 pounds.

1. The oilers sign Moss, Winnik, and Fiddler
2. We draft Ekblad as both teams ahead play it safe and draft a forward
3. Gagner is traded for Josh Bailey who is our sub par 2nd line C for next year
4. We try hard to sign 2c and stop gap top pairing D but neither pan out
5. Our blue line is very green to start next season rolling with
Marincin-Petry
Klefbom-Schultz
Ference-Ekblad

mainly garbage conjecture.

Maybe, but we've seen the Oilers off season movie enough times to have an idea how the 8th edition is going to work. Yes, the specific plot points will be different but Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch is only going to deviate so much from the original Air Bud.

1. MacT trades down at the draft, he'd rather have 30 - 7th round picks than 1 first rounder.
2. Taylor Hall does something 'reckless' and is out half the season.
3. Oilers sign Matt Greene as a UFA, cause he is big and good for a laugh.
4. In a blockbuster 'hockey trade', Nail Yakupov is gone before the season starts for ex-Oil King Keegan Lowe. No other pieces.
5. Gagner goes nowhere. Nobody wants him. He sucks unless you pair him with Patrick Kane. During the season Gagner begs management to trade Hall for Kane.

I know I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this, maybe there can be a player revolt too.

1-oilers try to trade up to 1 but flames make better offer(take ekblad). instead trade gagner+3rd to Toronto for kadri+8th+bolland rights. take haydn fleury
2-trade eberle+marincin to Nashville for jones
3-bolland signs 3 yr 4.5 deal
4-oilers trade 2015 2nd to Colorado for parenteau
5-oilers finish 7 pts out of playoffs(get 10th pick for 2015), no jerseys thrown on ice. hall/rnh/yakapov line has great chemistry, rnh puts 10 pounds of muscle on, hall 84pts/rnh 73/yak 66

what do you think?

Flames won't trade to #1, they don't have the assets, and that Leafs deal is horrendous, plus $4.5M for Bolland also unpleasant.

  1. Ekblad drops to us. Why? Flo wants a seasoned dman and drafts a scoring forward instead while Buf has many good dmen prospects and drafts a forward.
  2. Gagner, Gernat + Oilers' 2015 second round pick are traded to Carolina for Jordan Staal.
  3. Justin Schultz signs a bridge contract for two years.
  4. Petry signs for 2 years with a 2.9 mil cap hit.
  5. Buchberger is finally moved to upper management in a new (but somewhat ambiguous) position, Chief of Internal Human Facilitator and Liaison Officer.

4-We end up with one of the Centers probably Draisaitl
5-Boyle or Markov UFA

1. Oilers take Draisaitl at #3...start him on the 2nd line
2. Eakins adds Perry Pearn to the coaching staff
3. Gagner traded for 2nd and 3rd round pick...rebounds with a 50 pt. season on a decent team
4. Oilers swing and miss on most UFAs trying to shore up blueline...settle for Nikitin and Matt Greene
5. They overpay Winnik and Kulemin for big, long contracts...Marc Arcobello is the center on the that 3rd line

bonus: Yak rebounds with a 20 goal 50 point year, traded at deadline

1. Oilers will use the draft pick, on Sam Bennett. They'll take one Russian, one coke machine, and a few WHL D-men

2. The Oilers attempt to deal Sam Gagner, and are successful: They take on 1M of his contract, and deal him to the Nashville Predators for Viktor Stalberg

3. During UFA free agency, the Oilers sign Matt Greene and David Moss. The Oilers make a semi surprising move, signing UFA forward Dave Bolland, to a 4 year, 5M cap hit deal.

4. The Oilers are never rumored to be in on any of the big name D such as Phaneuf or Ehrhoff

5. The Oilers overpay Justin Schultz on a long term deal. They also give Luke Gazdic 1.75M per year on a 4 year deal.

The team then finishes a solid 13th place in the West

1. Oilers take Draisaitl, seems pretty obvious with all the uncertainty around Gagner.
2. Gagner stays because he can't be dealt for anything good and the Oilers don't want to look desperate, so at the start of the season...
3. Oilers run Draisaitl-Gagner as the 2/3 centres with Gordon as 4C and Arco as a scratch.
4. The Oilers sign some random euros and AHLers who they pump the **** out of, but will not become anything good.
5. Oilers trade for Phaneuf. Which I actually would not mind since he is much better than our other Dmen. Not necessarily a good thing, but any help is good help.

1. Draft Draisaitl
2. Gagner stays, nobody wants his sorry ass.
3. Mactavish interviews candidates for assistant gm role, while doing so he is overcome with how fantastic one of the prospective suitors is he fires himself and hires the applicant on the spot.
4. New gm Kelly Buchberger delivers on his promise of bold moves, trading Ben Scrivens and Victor Fasth to the Montreal Canadiens for Peter Budaj and Devan Dubnyk.
5. Buchberger fires Eakins and hires Craig Mactavish to be the new head coach.

 You consistently crack me up IATL. I died laughing yesterday when you called Sautner a toilet.

Liquor, you out-did yourself on this one. Hilarious.

the sad part is that, while you jest, this is also not even remotely out of the realm of possibility. Equally as strange things have happened with this club.
