So a couple facts with the Schenn situation

1) His wife's due date is trade deadline day
2) He wants to stay and re-sign in Vancouver

This is not a player that wants to move at this time. I suspect his wish to not be traded will be granted but we will see.

I think it comes down to what his trade value is and what he’s willing to re-sign for. I don’t necessarily think it will be a situation like with Motte last year where they’ll trade him for whatever the highest offer is.

“I wasn’t really sold on the player before, but now that he’s hurt, I just gotta have him.”

Said no GM ever.

I mean GM's do stupid shit all the time and Mike Milbury, JIM Benning both exist I wouldn't be so sure that's never been said.

Sure if they get a really good offer that can't be denied I suspect business will win the trade or no trade discussion. If it's a routine mid-round pick I think they just preserve the relationship and respect his wishes. There is a place for Schenn on this team and in that locker room moving forward. Hopefully they can move him down to the 6/7 role if he stays.

Debatable. Very limited mobility and puck skill. Carolina type teams would see him as a weakness for example. As a 15 minute, PK specialist type player he would be good depth however for only a 3rd round type asset.
And that's why Carolina type teams don't win the cup

Chiarot was making 4x what Schenn is and had poor defensive numbers. Damn right a team is going to give up either a second and a prospect or a late first. If Schenn was playing on the Bruins he'd be +50 right now.

Chiarot as a comp for Schenn is dubious. He was a year removed from playing #1 minutes on a team that went deep. More importantly, Florida brought him in to play a Top 4 role.

Bottom pairing D for bottom pairing minutes over the past 5 deadlines include Forbert, DeMelo, Lovejoy and Cole for 3rd rounders. Hakanpaa arguably received similar value (depends on a Fleury valuation). Greene and Kulak only touched the 2nd round level; the other assets weren’t meaningful.

Idk if you’ve seen schenn play the last 1-2 years but he’s actually worked on and improved his puck skills dramatically. He’s no longer a dump off the glass any chance he gets player. He will actually hold the puck and look for options and sometimes even pull a deke to evade a check and open up a passing lane for himself

There’s been interviews where he has mentioned this is a part of his game he’s worked a lot on the last couple years since he knows in todays nhl you have to have some puck skill and be able to make a breakout pass

Don’t be fooled by the 3rd round pick price tag, my neighbours just listed their house at 900k and they just sold it for 1.3 million. Sometimes it’s smart to get people in the door and go from there, there isn’t a playoff team out there who isn’t kicking tires on Schenn.

He’s not going for a 3rd unless it comes with a B+ Prospect in my opinion, he is highly valued in Vancouver and around the league. Calgary I think offers the most due to Sutter gushing over him and them being able to offer the best pick.

Vancouver is looking for the best pick from the worst team inquiring about him like they did with Horvat.

Weird, I wonder why a slightly younger version of him only played 11 and 8 games for Tampa’s cup runs? How does your post make sense when the reality contradicts it?
Luke Schenn has arguably been playing the best hockey of his career with the Canucks.

Hes probably a No 5 on a middling playoff team, but a 6-7 on a true contender, as a true contender would likely be stacked with everyday top-4 guys playing bottom pairing minutes.

Hes definitely better than the likes of Ben Chiarot. I think he's as good as Bogosian, too, looking at a Tampa comparison.

I noticed Tampa also didn't win squat without Luke Schenn :sarcasm:

Yeah I think Schenn is a good bottom pairing guy and excellent depth player in the playoffs; but some talk that he's better than Clifton or hss's some new, shiny car you haven't seen before is fabricated. Fact is, Hughes is just so good he propped Schenn up for half a season.

He will be a decent add given his salary and no commitment contract for what he brings, but anything more than a 2nd rd pick is a home run.
