Oilers really shouldn't be moving high picks or good prospects to get rid of Lucic. One future top pick or current prospect excelling while on an ELC can mostly offset Lucic's ugly contract all by himself.
Say you develop a winger in the near future who can put up 25g-35a or 20g-40a, (something like that) while on an ELC.
That's around 925k + bonuses plus 6,000,000 for Lucic who should be capable of 15-20g and 20-25a for most of those 5 years, if not all of them
So......
Total cap hit for both = 6.95 million (+Bonuses)
Total production for both = 40-45g and 50-55a or 90-100 total points.
Obviously once that ELC expires the crunch is on, but Lucic's contract is much less burdensome at that point.
That rosy scenario, while somewhat of a leap of faith, certainly isn't out of the question.

Lucic isn’t cutting it on Draisaitl’s wing. We have Puljujarvi/Rieder on the right but no one else on the left. The issue is that we can’t trade for a winger without dumping Lucic’s contract. If we add significantly to him what kind of wingers could we get? Maybe:

I just wish our fans would stop posting trade proposals about Lucic. Lucic's value is at an all time low and other fans enjoy pounding on him.

The reality is that Lucic is coming from a terrible half season, we should have a bit of patience, see how he plays this season. IMO it would be stupid to trade him now when he has negative value. If he bounces back, the trade would hurt us a lot, and if he keeps sucking his value cannot go any lower than today (but he would have 1 year less on his contract)....

Even if a rebuilding team would take him on the add would have to be substantial and Lucic probably doesn't waive to join a rebuild for the rest of his career.

This is so pointless, no one is going to want to take on contract. And the Oilers aren’t gonna give up Yamamoto just to get rid of that contract. Our winger depth is bad enough as it is. Our only bet is to pray he bounces back.

I think we just ride Lucic out. I don’t like the contract either, but there are definitely worse out there.

He just turned 30, and honestly if he can get 40-50 then that’s not really bad value compared to other UFAs at all, especially considering he brings physicality and decent defensive play.

I don't think Lucic has no value. The no trade clause makes trading him nearly impossible, but there are a couple of teams that would certainly take Lucic even if he is overpaid.

FIRST OF ALL LUCIC IS OWED 4.5 MILLION A YEAR IN REAL MONEY .

I don't know if you notice but rebuilding teams have tons of cap space so real dollars matters and no one knows how long a rebuild can take . Last is why would a rebuilding team have to keep him for all 5 years . His last 3 years pays him a total of 4 million , 5 million and 4 million
