If Brown doesn't make it out of training camp as a Senator he will never be a valuable piece for this team.
I disagree, obviously. But I'm hoping that he's much better than last time. Brown was very quite at the rookie tournament, and the main camp.

I agree. If he gets cut from Ottawa AND Belleville at this point in his development we can give up in him ever being an impact guy.

Just off the top of my head, a few offensive forwards, highly regarded prospects, who spent time in the AHL at 21 in their second pro seasons but went on to have good careers: Tyler Toffoli, Vince Trocheck, Brad Marchand, Mark Stone.

There's absolutely nothing to suggest that is/will be the case.

I think (could be wrong) that was the joke. Somebody said if he doesn't make it out of training camp as a Senator, he's done, so the reply was to sarcastically agree, pointing out both Ottawa AND Belleville are Sens. The implication being even if he's down with Belleville he could still become a very good player.

I was just agreeing with the poster I quoted if he's not a senator out of training camp then we should give up on him having top six potential. Poster never said Ottawa senator or Belleville senator so I poked some fun at him

Edit: I'm honestly of the opinion that he should play most of the beginning of the year in Belleville. I saw him play a few times and he still has a lot to work on defensively. He was easily stripped of the puck along the boards in the defensive end. He just needs to engage and focus a little more. I believe that giving him another taste out of camp then sending him down will keep him hungry while he's riding the busses in the ahl. He should be full time on big team after the trade deadline (barring injury or regression) then have a spot the following season. I'm still a fan of Brown's. I wanted him with our pick and was very excited when we called his name. We all knew he Was a project pick when we selected him. He has a few years before I write him off

Yeah he does look pretty cut. Goddamn, would be cool to see him go down and put up some crazy shit like 15 points in 10 games or something, cold force them to call him up.

Is he better than White?
Yes. I think by the end of the year, we'll all unanimously see Brown higher than White on the depth chart. Hopefully it's due to Brown over achieving and not White underachieving.

Brown had a way better rookie year in the AHL, and that'll translate this year. If he does make it out if camp, I wouldn't be surprised to see him breaking 45 points.*

*if he stays healthy. That's my biggest concern with him.

If he’s motivated he’s going to be the best player on the team

Dude looks like he’s in shape
The game changes if Brown becomes a 70 point forward

White played on a terrible team, with a bad head coach, and still only finished five points from the team lead while missing games in the NHL.

That being said, Brown has a higher ceiling and put together a very good rookie season in the minors. If Brown can keep up to the pace and speed of the NHL he’ll be a legitimate top six centre.

I'm not sure that Brown has a higher ceiling than White. They'll be vastly different types of players for sure.

As I've said before, I think everyone is sleeping on White's offensive upside. Most points all time in a single U17 tournament, led his U20 team in goals (second in the tournament) en route to a gold medal, second on his U17 team in total season scoring, second on his NCAA team in scoring as a rookie. All while being a defense-first player.

I really think his upside is somewhere in the ballpark of Bergeron/O'Reilly. Where he'll score 60+ a year throughout his prime, and peak at a season or two of 70+, while being a 20 minute a night, 1000 FOW a year, PK specialist. Maybe wins a Selke or two.

So if White does reach that upside, could Brown still be better than him? Would be a tall order. I'm not as sold on Brown at this point. He just hasn't lit it up everywhere he's gone the way White has. That said, I was just as reserved about White after his underwhelming rookie pro year. Brown actually had a really solid first season in the AHL, albeit with a much better team around him.

It is obvious all the physical tools are there for Brown but what is a realistic ceiling? 80+ points? At this point, I don't want to say I'm doubtful, but I'm hesitant.

In comparing an ideal Brown to an ideal White, my first temptation is to say because of White's two-way play, Brown would have to be significantly better offensively to be the better overall player. But when I envision how a Brown-Batherson line might dominate offensive zone possession, that's just as important for controlling a game as an elite defensive center.

Again, this is all assuming both will reach their maximum potential. I recognize that the likelihood of both doing so is... a lot lower than the likelihood that just one does. :badidea:

At the very least White will be a 50-60 point a year guy. Not sure about Brown.

Oh my, this sure doesn't fit the narrative on Hfboards that he lacks motivation and drive... or that hes chubby.

He looks like a monster. So excited to see what he can do this year.

It was more than just an HF narrative though. That kind of talk came up in multiple scouting reports as well.

It’s great news for the franchise if he’a taking his off season training seriously though. If this guys reaches ~half of his top end potential he’s gonna be a player for us.

There isn't some consensus HF narrative that he's lazy or soft, do some people hold that view here? I'm sure they do.

My position has long been that he's your boom bust prospect. You just keep doubling down on him until he's like 25 before you consider "giving up" on him because of his potential. #1C's are the hardest position to fill.

This team hasn't had a true #1C (in both size and skill) since Spezza, Brown could be that guy. Here's hoping.

The other side is White failed to score after the trade deadline and was a non factor at the world championships for USA.

White is far from a lock to get 50-60 points. I think Brown’s ceiling is much higher of the two which will evolve as the team adds/develops more wingers. An effective Brady, AL, Batherson will help Brown’s game.

I bet they are close this year in points assuming Brady or Bath don’t become effective triggers.

I hope Brown makes it.
