I'm not sure how true this is.

I mean, it's probably true in part, but I think it's just as likely that the Bolts got the two-goal lead and tried to hang back because *they* wanted to preserve an easy win, not necessarily because the coach did -- and then when the Canes kept coming, they couldn't find their way back into the game. Remember: that was a one-goal game from midway through the second, and it was a tie game for the last 7 minutes. They obviously weren't just "hanging on for a win" when they were tied for those last 7 minutes -- they just couldn't.

That’s exactly what I’m saying — they skated openly with us until the second period PP. Their PK played it super conservative (almost to the point of just standing still and watching) and when we scored and went back to ES they never really skated with us again. That was when their “breakout” started looking more like lob passes that our D would bat down.

You may very well be right that they lost their legs, or that they individually decided to just play it super conservative instead of pushing themselves. If either is true, I’m seeing a huge difference between Cooper’s and RBA’s preparation and in-game management. It’s rare to really see a coaching gap playing out in real time, but it was there in spades last night.

It's a treat to see this defense come together this early. Canes could legitimately have three top-30 (#1) D on the team with Slavin, Pesce, and Hamilton. All 3 slightly different flavors too with 1) shutdown/transition specialist Slavin, 2) three zone Pesce and 3) o-zone specialist Hamilton

Yeah, I'm not seeing the problem. We haven't played even close to our best game for 60 minutes and we're 3-0-0 against MTL, WSH and TBL. I know it's weird, but now *we're* the team that can beat *others* so many different ways that we can be *off* in an area or two and still win. *We're* the ones with the margin for error. If other teams don't bring their "A" game, they're in trouble.

Hockyluv21 needs to be in the opening roster of Tactical thread makers.

Need these wins down the road.

Once again, yep.

If someone would have told me that through three games, Aho would be scoreless, none of our top six will have scored a goal, our starting goalie would have a .878 sv%, and that we would be trailing all 3 games after 2 periods against these 3 opponents, I’d have said we would have been lucky to get a point.

This team has a lot more to give.

I think conditioning plays a big part here. The Canes never, ever, ever give up, and they never, ever stop. They come in waves, and now they're built to roll four dangerous lines all game long. I think TBL just ran out of gas.
Yeah, I am not sure where all of the "they sat back" narrative is coming from either. I don't think that was an issue at all with the comeback. I think the Canes manufactured the come back by locking the Bolts down, not being handed one by a lazy or stupid team.

Recap: Canes Rally Again to Top Lightning in OT

Slavin delivers third straight win with overtime goal

The Canes scored three unanswered goals and climbed out of another two-goal hole to down the defending Presidents' Trophy winners in the second half of a back-to-back.
"Our team doesn't quit," said Dougie Hamilton, who earned first-star honors with the game-tying goal and an assist. "We just keep going."
The Canes are now 3-0-0, their record unblemished even when trailing after two periods in all three of those games. As a comparison, the team was just 3-20-3 last season when trailing after two. The Canes are the 13th team in NHL history to come from behind to win each of their first three games in a season.
"I think it just shows that the guys believe in each other already, which is great,
and I think they understand how to play to be successful.
Our game, they trust it," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said.
"Still some things to shore up, but I like the effort.
You can't fault that. It's been right there from the get-go."

In the last two games, sure. But in the game against the Habs, we looked like ass in the first two periods.

IMO the Canes and Habs were 50/50 in the first period, Montreal dominated the 2nd, and we dominated the 3rd.

I didn't see the first two periods of the Washington game so can't comment, but the 3rd and OT seemed pretty evenly played to me.

Tampa outplayed us in the 1st, half of the 2nd was 50/50 hockey, we dominated the rest of that period and most of the 3rd and OT.

From what I've seen, that's 2 bad periods, roughly 3 evenly played periods, and roughly 3 good periods.
