Also, am I reading this correctly? The Canes only gave up 2(!) shots in 2+ periods? WTAF? Not even ultra-elite defense can explain that shot differential, it's actually inexplicable, it reads like a stat from the Canadian or US Women's Hockey team against some midget country in the preliminaries.

A big part of it is that Tampa had several threatening rushes which didn’t result in shot attempts, for one reason or another. And they followed that with about 15 consecutive minutes (across the intermission break) of sitting back defensively to protect the lead. Which was honestly a very stupid way to manage that game.

Reading their GDT, their fans are pretty pissed off at Cooper for trying to make a 2-goal advantage last 40 minutes. And also at Kucherov for being COMPLETELY invisible.

Cooper is a doofus. That extension looks brutal.

I’m sure I’m not the only one to say this, but McGoalie was the only reason Tampa got a point tonight. I know it’s early, but they do not look good.
Honestly, without some really good goaltending by our opponents, we would have won each game this year in regulation and probably scored 2 more goals per game. We have actually been a little snakebit with great saves and puck luck off the posts so far this year but we keep winning

And we are doing this all without Svech, Aho, Turbo, Nino, and Dzingel lighting the lamp. Those guys start to turn it on and this could really be a special year

I don't care if we need OT to win all 82 games.

I think it was 2002 when we played more regular season OT games than anyone (?), and folks were citing our resultant conditioning as the reason we were such a threat in the playoffs OTs. (2 vs Habs, 2 vs Debs, 3 vs Leafs, and it finally fell apart vs Detroit)

Extra time can be a good thing. Even my wife agrees, so long as vivarin and Gatorade are at hand.

That was the one bummer about tonight. It was honestly hard to watch him opposing us and I wanted him to do well but lose at the same time lol.

Funny, I expressed the same sentiment to Mrs. Hank: "I want him to do really well, and I want us to beat him anyway."

So let it be written, so let it be done!

It was 2002.

No one could believe that we could beat New Jersey. Or Toronto. Or Montreal.

It was repeated 2006,2009,and 2019 too of course.

btw. Imagine believing that Hanifin is better hockey player than Dougie Hamilton. LOL.

Hamilton's getting extended. I'm feeling it. He's still underappreciated in every place that he's ever played for outside of Raleigh. It's only possible because Slavin/Pesce/Gardiner are on long-term bargain contracts, but Hamilton is actually worth backing the Brinks truck for. Give him the Trouba contract, 7 years/$8M AAV.

I don’t think anyone including Calgary fans thought that back then? They all wanted him gone but knew Hanifin was a step back. At most they thought he would grow into a better player than Dougie.

I don’t think any of us thought Hanifin was better?
