Petan is wasted on the 4th line, hes highly skilled but just not able to put it together enough to crack a lot of teams top 9. He might just end up on the marlies.

Maybe Korshkov will be given a look if Johnsson is out for awhile. His impressive start in North America with a camp and his size could potentially add a lot to the team

He has potential to be a good top 9 forward, just not with the Leafs depth. A team with weak wingers would get good value for him. Likely a late pick.

He is not unlike a 100-200 other players at the bottom of teams depth charts as far as NHL level is concerned. Pretty much every team has 3-5 guys like this already on their roster which is why he will be traded at most for a 5th round pick or lower, and more likely an AHL level forward with no NHL future.

I hope he gets a shot on a bad team. There's got to be teams out there with bad enough forwards that he can get a 3rd line spot, right? Maybe the Devils, Stars or Sens?

He doesn't have much value though. It'd basically be swapping AHL players where both teams hope a change of scenery sparks something.

Just said it on HNIC 2nd intermission. Looking to find him another team where he will get playing time ala the Leivo trade.

Incorrect context.....

He was talking about eithinjured pkayers coming back thry have to do roster moves. Also they have to watch their daily cap limit.

This means thry need to move players down exposing some players to waivers or possibly trade them.

Thry aren’t shopping players.

What was actually said is the leafs want to find a team for Petan, so he can play so leafs will most likely traded him for nothing say 7th or even future considerations

This doesn't have anything to do with the cap. Petan already cleared waivers and they can bury his cap hit whenever they want.

Hnic mentioned that if dermott and hyman come back, leafs would have to send down or get rid of 4 players (may have been 6, memory is fuzzy). Gravel and petan have cleared waivers, but even then, 2 or more would need to be exposed to waivers.

and marlies are already crowded, especially on defense.

Career 5th liner. Waste of a roster spot.

How many times can you pick an AHL player over an NHL player and still be considered competent? Kyle Dubas has done it twice already.

He's an NHL player, just redundant in Toronto.

He wasn't one before he joined the Leafs either though. He's a pure scorer who isn't that good at scoring at the NHL level and can't play a grinder role well.

Maybe a conditional 6th based on games played with the big club.

Every team already has a tweener who can't crack the team full-time.

He has played 1 less game than Lindholm this year and one more point.

Points are usually not the deciding factor for 4th liners . Its mostly whats the utility . For example can a player play PK and defend well enough ? Petan has to be used in a scoring role to be effective but he's not exactly shown he's good enough for that in the NHL.

One fills an NHL role for the reigning eastern conference champions. The other can’t make the NHL on the team they beat in the first round.

Lindholm is useful NHL plug. Petan is a 5th liner.
Lindholm is not a good hockey player. Petan is more then likely not an NHL caliber player. Garbage in garbage out. It is like people forget we literally gave Lindholm half a season to prove he was worth....anything. He isn't good.

Lindholm is a good PK’er and has decent hands for a 4th liner.

Petan does nothing.

The coach liked him. He elevated Lindholm to play on Kadri’s wing on more than one occasion. It’s not garbage in for garbage out if one of the players is a useful NHL’er.

Dubas looks like a fool for this one.
