1. McBackup rubbing it in our faces
2. Kadri looks like a 4th liner at this point. Anything touching his stick is cancerous
3. Marner is usually alot faster and sharper.
4. We got outskated tonight
5. We need to sometimes stack a top line putting Kap with JT and Marner for speed would be nice for this game
6. Bottom lines again shining first.
7. Hainsey clearing attempt during high stakes is proof that he might not be playoff material. **** like that cant happen.
8. Kadri needs a different line. YESTERDAY

On Kadri with a different line... how good might Komarov look there?

9 points in 20 games and a +5

Last four games we've average 42 shots against. It's not a good trend, and we're lucky to be 3-1 in that stretch.

Mostly crappy shots as we're leading. Sure we need to tidy up but that game was mostly about just not showing up to play and not about how we are as a team. Just one of those nights.

This game is proof that

We need Matthews back ASAP

And

McElhinney was the better backup

Not ASAP. They laid an egg probably because they are tired some. Truth is this lineup without Matty, Willie and Kadri playing lost does does not have enough goal scorers. I like Par but he has no shot and will never score outside of 10 feet in front on the net. Same with Goat.

I've seem more than enough of Goat. For a guy who should know that he will be the odd man out when Matty returns he does nothing to make an impression on me. Go stand in front of the net and hope a shot deflects off your ass and goes in cause you are never going to score with those hands.

I understand you have seen enough of Goat and that's fair. How do you feel about that 3rd line though? To me they are far worse than Leivo and the 4th line which actually is most commonly putting pressure on teams and not the other way around. The Brown line is disgusting, Johnsson is nothing special, Lindy the same and Brown is basically just a PK specialist. Very bad stuff, 3rd line to me is 4th liners.

Agreed and I said it yesterday that until the 3rd line had that one great shift in the 1st they sucked. Pretty much everybody sucked except JT and Kappy. JT played lots in the 2nd and 3rd. I hope he has something for CBJ cause they will get spanked if they show up like they did last night.

I have liked Ennis and Leivo on the 4th line. I don't understand where Leivo's hands went (could be a result of playing with Goat). Ennis works hard and makes good plays but sometimes tries to do too much.

Makes a lot of sense when you remember were missing 2/3rds our first line

For those who thinks hit mean something. Canes outhit us 32-22. Ennis and Z led Leafs with 4 hits. Ferland had 9 for the Canes.

How this board would have cried if Sparks let in that goal Kapanen scored last night. How about all those weird angle shots McBackup looked sketchy on? Sparks would have been roasted.

So...

2 teams about the same in speed.
1 has more depth and talent
1 has more size and physicality.

The team with depth and talent didnt show up half the game with key players looking blase.

The other team had the big physical guys skate the best.

To top it off - our ex backup goalie stopped alot of our chances. No rebounds. No floppy panics. And then laughed at us.

He was so good... the guys on the canes side of things are calling him Mcstarter.

McStarter.....

Silver lining we still brought it. Go LEAFS go!!

Puck was bouncing a lot. Bad ice? Think we’d be used to it lol....just like home! But for a fancy pass team that can hurt

Piss poor game. Lack of effort and ability to control the puck or make the simple pass/play cost them the game.

Can't win them all

2nd game in a row where the boys have came flat, then had a 2nd good period.. Expect for tonight they couldn't come back in the 2nd and 3rd.

Im going to go out on a limb and guess that AM34 will be back after the weekend..... hopefully anyways

Mostly crappy shots as we're leading. Sure we need to tidy up but that game was mostly about just not showing up to play and not about how we are as a team. Just one of those nights.

We give up the 6th most shots in the league per game. The teams doing worse are Ottawa, Chicago, Detroit, NYR, and Anaheim, i.e. not very good teams and not teams giving up a ton of shots simply due to scoring effects and usually having the lead (they're ranked 13, 17, 19, 22, and 23rd in league standings).

As for the breakdown with the Leafs, we've given up 244 shots in the 1st period this season, 224 in the 2nd, and 257 in the 3rd. We're not giving up dramatically more shots in the 3rd due to scoring effects, we're giving up a lot in general.

244 in the 1st, the period which should have the least amount of scoring effects, extrapolates to 732 per game, which through 22 games is 33.3 shots against per game. Which is actually worse than our current 33.0 shots against/game. So it's not like we have solid shots against in the 1st/2nd which are being weighed down by the end of the game trying to hold leads (2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs Situational | Hockey-Reference.com).

We're also #8 in the league for high danger scoring chances against, so we're not just giving up soft peripheral shots (Team Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick).
