Last night was the 1st time in I don't know how long, where I turned off the game before it was over.

I love the Leafs, but hate this team. I went down the list, and found only 6 players I want to keep on this team, and everyone else can GTFO.

Hopefully tonight puts me back in a good mood about this team :P

Kostka alone isn't the problem.

The only guy on the PP doing his job is JvR. He screens the goalie whenever he gets on the PP...

Kessel keeps taking perimeter shots or passes in high traffic areas where sticks intercept it and throw it out of the zone.

Phaneuf takes wide shots 99.9% of the time.

Kostka doesn't take many shots at all and usually engages in a "Pass to the Death" game with Phaneuf and Kessel.

Bozak, what does he even do on the PP besides the faceoff?

Overall: Everybody in the same position, barely ever move and take shots from low percentage areas.

Kadri needs to be on the first PP at the point instead of Kostka. When he can see the ice, he can make plays better than anyone on this team right now.

We need to put Frattin on that half-wall. Kid's got a rocket of a shot and that's where he played in college. We could see many Stamkos-esque PP goals from him if we use him right. And of course, have Kadri as his set-up man.

Perhaps the Leafs should go the Don Cherry route, and put Orr, Mclaren, and Fraser on the powerplay. The tough guys can't score if they only get 5min a night.

We win = This team is the best

We lose = This team sucks

We lose = the team is the best

We win = the team sucks

Does that make sense to you?

I think Kostka is probably just holding Gardiner's spot for him. Pretty sure Gardiner was out there on the first powerplay with Dion when he was playing.

Seems like Scrivens is going to start

How can Scrivens succeed with his goalie glove position exactly like a back catcher in baseball?

This is what Scrivens does on every shot:

1) Standard position is back catcher, glove position
2) When the shot is coming, he rolls his wrist to a more proper position
3) Than has to move it again depending on if the shot is high or low

My point is there is way too much movement. NHL guys will expose very easy. His 5 hole u could drive a zamboni through it.

he is quick going down so that five hole may look big for a second but can close right away

We aren't exactly a good team though.

We win one, lose one. Very inconsistent.

We're going to win 20-24 games this season if we're up and down.

Maybe we can trade Kessel for Ovie, I would be willing to take a chance on him rediscovering his form with a new team.

He's not emotionally there with Washington since Boudreau tried to reign him in 2 years ago. He's playing with little passion now, what he needs is a change of scenary. An emotional change that will bring intensity and passion back to his game.

Expecting a loss. It's the second of a back to back and despite the first win against Washington, the team hasn't had many wins against Washington over the past few years. Even last year they spanked them in their first game against them and then lost the next 3 games against them in regulation.

The PP is absolutely atrocious. No, that word doesn't even do it justice but it's the best I can think of right now.

The third line is hands down the best line on this team and it's made up of 3 guys who are starting a full NHL season for the first time. Not to take away from their talent but that's kind of sad. This team won't go anywhere if the vets don't start contributing. We can't expect Kadri, Frattin and Komarov to carry the offense for the team forever. Speaking of Kadri and Frattin, Kadri should be on the first PP unit, Frattin should be getting some decent PP time.

Phaneuf should just be put back on his correct side. I can't take his ineptness on the ice and at the rate he's going, he may just single handedly take out his own teammates. I can't wait for Gunnar, Gardiner and Lupul to heal up and get the hell back into the line up. They certainly don't guarantee wins but it'd be nice to see guys who are supposed to be solid guys in the line up actually play more than a couple of games before going down hurt. JVR is playing great hockey despite the struggles of his line in general. I'm happy with Kulemin's play overall. The guy is a work horse and whether he ends up on the scoreboard or not, he's a player that you know is always giving everything he has in every shift, even if it doesn't always work out well for him.

Oh and while the officiating hasn't really been an excuse for any of the losses, it would be nice if the damn refs stopped disallowing perfectly good goals for the team. Also would be nice if they did something on the ice to engage the fans. Their home record is abysmal. It sucks that the place is relatively quiet but when you're taking perimeter shots all night that have little chance of scoring because of that, you aren't going to get many people on their feet chanting - more like many people burying their heads in their hands and wondering why they punish themselves with this team  And I don't think their lack of offense is attributed to Carlyle's system. I think their lack of offense is attributed to poor decision making on the ice. When they break into the zone, why are you making a billion passes around the perimeter and then take your shot in high traffic where you know it has a tiny chance in hell of getting through? You know why the Kadri line has been successful? Because they're the only line that is willing to score goals by any means necessary which includes every single one of them battling in the corners and rushing the net to score a garbage goal if need be.

I'm fully expecting them to go 2 below .500 tonight but hoping they can bounce back in Winnipeg and if they have a prayer, grab at least a point in Montreal on Saturday (they're racking up wins right now and I suspect that'll be another loss).

Okay and one last thing - Carlyle can you please have Franson lead drills in practice to teach our D-men how to hit the net when they take shots? If there's one thing Franson is reliable for is that whenever he takes a shot, you know it's going to be on net and can often lead to good rebounds.

-End rant-

When a team is underachieving and their star player is slumping, Toronto is the team with which they bounce back.

Washington wins 6-2, Ovechkin with hat-trick.

Book it.

We could make a list of these.

When a player needs his first goal or his first goal after going far too long without a goal, Toronto is the team that they'll find their offense.

When the Leafs are playing against a former Leaf which the fanbase deemed replaceable, said former Leaf will score or have a hand in a play that results in a goal against for the Leafs.

Benny boy in net, this will be a critic loss for the tank, as the games after this one should be guaranteed losses. Let's get some momentum with this tank.
