Is Clarke eligible to play in the AHL this year? I thought it was OHL or NHL because he’s a CHL player and he turns 20 next year.
Clarke's eligible to play in the AHL only when his OHL season concludes.

And that's the same for next year.

Toffoli joined Manchester for a handful of games after his D+1 OHL season ended, then went back to the '67s for his D+2 season so its certainly allowed. No idea if he counted as an SPC though.

I'd assume it'd count towards the 50 contract limit while he's playing pro but once he's back in junior the following season it would not.

Has Brock ever come out to LA? I think that would only help, if he met some of the team. I guess the only ones he's for sure met, would be Turcotte and Kaliyev, from the Gold Medal WJC team.

File this in the Faber file.

Exactly! All this chatter about Faber heading to free agency like Fox is premature. He’s going to have to wait two more years to get there. If we can’t sign him after next season, the. It is time to worry and his Riggs should be traded.

I will probably get the 'you're pulling that out of nowhere' repsonses, but I don't care.
If you watch much Faber footage out there, there are at least 2 long ones about his family and his sister, Paige. Hockey may be #1 to Brock, but family is right there equally....and he has a special bond to his sister. it seems her world is playing special needs hockey and Brock is her hero.

Brock will go on and play pro hockey and probably have a great career....if he goes to LA, what happens to his sister? It would seem best for Brock to play for the Wild. Maybe he's thinking of going to free agency.
Yes, this may not be true, but it also could be.

We do know he just turned down as offer to sign and rumor was (yes, not confirmed) that Rob offered him to join the team in Minnesota and debut. Regardless if that part is true, Rob went to Minny and met with him and offered him a contract and most assuradly, the top bonus package and Brock said no. Who knows if Brock said he would consider signing next year. At least Rob probably knows at least that much, or if Brock stated his hoped plans.

At this point I can say I know what it's like to have a special needs child and you do anything you can for them. My older son is high functioning autistic, yet from age 2 to 12, he needed 1-2 weekly therapies and it took a lot of time and efforts for over a decade to get him all the help he needed. He could not speak or jump unitl age 4.
My ex quit her job...we went to autism conferences around the country...could go on and on.
I will tell you this - ANYONE who did anything for my son or us, was #1 best person in the world status.
Former Dodger Jim Gott has 2 autistic sons and my son got to hang out with them and play sports and activities...world class chef, Kyle Connaughton (also was personal chef to George Harrisons widow in Bel Air) had our family over and made unreal food...my ex knew his wife, so that helped, but they loved my son and were cool to him. Anyone who extended love or did things for my son was super human.

So? I do not know what Paige does in life. I'm sure she still plays hockey, at some level or with special needs young adults. The Kings are all about inclusion - they hired Blake Bolden, to be a scout and inclusion specialist, no less. This may seem a little out there, but I would bet the Kings (may already do?) would support and even spearhead a hockey program for speical needs kids and young adults. What if the Kings formed this and offered Paige to be one of the leaders in the program? Maybe coach the youth as well. A paid job.

Is this a shttty way to try to get Brock to commit to the Kings? Not really. If he is going to commit anyway (we don't know) he would probably not think - you guys are aholes - especially if he was introduced to Blake Bolden and it's something the Kings were already working on to spearhead. if Brock knew the Kings were committed to a program like that and wanted his sister to be a big part of that, that gives her a great life and do what she loves...and certainly helps speical needs kids and young adults. She could be in LA and Brock would be there. They keep their bond and Paige has a career. Sometimes great things are started, with some of the wrong reasons; or maybe also a 'this benefits me as well thing'...(maybe for gov funding, non profits, etc) but in the end, it is still a great endeavor.

I will never, ever forget anyone that did great things for my son. I would do anything for them as well.

Knies returning for his sophomore year is a smart move him him, it's tough to turn down your NHL team but this is the best for his long-term development and leaving early could effect that, leaving late won't. I got to admit he was one of the best players in the country by the end of the year and was close to being ready, but he will be ready to step in and be more of an impact guy for the Leafs after his NCAA season ends next year.

Different situation than Faber though, most players of Knies caliber do return to school for sophomore year while most players of Faber's caliber don't for junior year. We will never know the true reasons why Faber didn't sign. It could be family, it could be depth chart concerns and not wanting to play in the AHL, it could be trying to win a NC. Only Faber and maybe the Kings know the real reasons.

I like what both of them said about unfinished business, though. At least publicly it sounds believable and their backgrounds/personalities support it.

Not worried at all. It’s a hockey school and he is surrounded by a ton of talent to go on a long run next year. He can take that next step adding some offense and grow bigger and stronger. He is super young.

Saves us a contract spot for a year and the kid is stuck behind a massive amount of NHL ready guys playing the same position .

This time next year we can celebrate the signing.

I didn't mean to kill the the thread with what I believe may be part of Brock wanting to become a free agent and sign with the Wild or a team closer to his home...but there are a few 'known' things:

1. his family and being close to his sister. being a character guy and wanting a National Championship and committing to his teammates. these are knowns.
2. he's not about making money. he could have signed and got a bonus and be on his way to his NHL dream and making money.
3. consider he's apparently never been to LA. Yes, there's been the pandemic, etc. and he's collegiate.

My angle is raising a special needs child and that child takes precedent. Each family member does all they can for that member and makes sacrifices. Especially tight families. A lot of my choices changed, as well as my ex's. She quit her job. My younger son took on the role of being the 'big brother' and protected my older son at school and outings. I went on night shift in the studios, so I could be home during the day to go to therapies during the day. Marriage suffered, as my ex told me her life would be about raising our son. It's not a reach that Brock may want to have his pro career in Minnesota. Maybe I am reaching, but I can have my insight into this. No, it's Brock's sister and not his own kid, but you can tell they are super close. Maybe he feels being in LA and away from her would be crushing to her. IDK. Yes, life goes on, for certain, but my older son still is a huge part of my life and see him often. I won't leave the area and stay near him.

Go on with the thread being about Brock Faber, the elite King defenseman prospect, whom the Kings own the rights to, to 2 more years. I hope he plays for LA . If not, I hope Rob can make the best deal possible. I won't continue my thoughts on the family thing. No need to any more.

Yep. He'll get to see homeless tents, and the current dilapidated state of affairs in the city. I'm sure it will be very enticing.

If he's not signed by this time next year, you need to deal him. Problem is though if he doesn't sign next year, every other team besides the Wild would be in the same boat as us, thus killing a ton of his trade value. With the depth, we have at RD is it best to just make him the central piece in a deal for Chychrun this summer? I love Brock's game and think he'll be absolutely nails in the NHL probably not a 1D but definitely, a 2/3. You can't risk losing a prospect of his quality for nothing so I'd probably make that move.
