Read carefully. That "as an 18-year-old" referred to that video from two years ago when he shot 101+ mph at all star game.

Only as a 20-year-old he shot 103+ mph.

Yes, but the thread title says just shot over, which implies now, or recently, not 2 years ago.

And thread OP was about that shot he made couple of days ago as a 20-year-old. But that particulat post you quoted referred also that 2-year-old shot, when Laine was 18-year-old.

His shooting is same old, same old, just less than 2 mph more today than couple of years ago.

Wasn’t there video of Stamkos shooting 105 a few years ago, I think most nhlers could break a hundred if they were given as many tries as they need

No doubt, the kid can rip it.

Velocity doesn't make a great goal scorer. There have been many hardest shots that had plumber like goal totals. IE Al Iafrate pop to mind.

Really I would be more interested in a shooting skills competition of goal scorers. Say a Laine vs Boeser competition. There is more to scoring goals than just shot speed. Accuracy, release, and timing are invariably more important.

Interesting coincidence: Laine is working on quite the skullet, too!

Math problem: both cars are driving on a perfectly straight freeway, and pucks aren’t affected by gravity or air friction.

Driver A is driving 120 mph

Driver B is driving 50 mph. And is also 1.75 miles behind Driver A on the Autobahn.

Driver B for some inexplicable reason has Patrik Laine standing on the front hood of his car, and Laine hits a perfect 103 mph slap shot directly at Driver A’s car. How much time will elapse before Laine’s puck hits Driver A’s car?

I have no idea what the answer is but to help others with their calculations, I've inserted the actual footage of the impact.

yes, 101, not 103, which would have won.

I think you're lacking the conception of how rare it is to get over 100mph as a 18-20 year old.

Ekblad was considered to be an early bloomer and really strong for his age and he shot at 95mph a few months before he turned 19.

The same people that say Laine only has his shot seem to be strangely suspicuous about the claim that Laine shoots the puck really hard.

Yep, for a 3rd liner with what now seems like a not-that-impressive shot he sure fluked his way into scoring 80 goals as a teenager

Add it the list of achievements Suomi, and let's see what the updated list looks like. Put it just before his allstar game lap, incredible feats.

Did he shoot 103.14763MPH?

I'm not sure why you went to 5 decimal points? He shot over 103.1 MPH.
Because he calculated the speed at which he was walking at the time of Laine's Slap Shot.
The Shot would have been over 110MPH/278345Kilks but the puck was a little deflated.

Agreed.

And even then, that's 4 significant numbers. Way enough to measure something as trivial as a hockey shot.

The most important measure in sports is probably how fast a human can run the 100m. And the answer is 9.58 seconds... only 3 significant numbers.

I'd say Laine shot a puck a little over 100 mph. Come see me when he hits 110... :sarcasm: (and he might just do it, too)

Happens every so often in the minors. Then there's a whole bunch of other minor leaguers well over 100mph and regularly beating the numbers we see in the NHL.

So like... great, but win it all in the NHL competition. That's the superbowl of this particular skill.
