Makes him the 20th highest capped goalie behind Andersen (5), Bishop (4.9), Anderson (4.75), Luongo (4.5) and places him above Allen (4.3), Dubnyk (4.3), and Raanta (4.25).

Overpaid by 0.5-1 million as per usual. Chia gonna Chia. The goalie market is so thin, which other team was going to offer this much in free agency? Calgary? Carolina? NJD?

He was the best goalie in the KHL for like 5 years! I would be surprised if he stayed for less considering what he can make playing overseas.

No he wasnt. He had one really great year before coming over. Theother years he was good but also played on a powerhouse. Noone who watches the KHL has ever said he was the best goalie in the KHL, let alone for the past 5 years. Not when you have guys like Sorokin and Samsonov being alot better

If he was going to up and leave because we wouldn't double his salary and give him 3 years of term after 30 average games, then boo f***ing hoo, he can go back to the KHL.

We shouldn't be competing with KHL prices.

That means absolutely nothing. He's cooled off considerably since that "Vezina" stretch and now looks like a goalie that hasn't been in the NHL for years.

It means quite a bit considering he could probably go back overseas and make 3-4M and be at home. If you want to go into next season with no goalies that’s fine. I thing this is one of the smarter things Chia has done given how important goaltending is, and what’s available on the market.

That performance against Calgary may he be been the best we have seen by an Edmonton goalie in 2 years.

Sealed Cam's fate. Hope we can get a third for him at least.

Don’t worry everyone. It’s not confirmed yet.

It’ll actually be 5M x 5 years.

HOW DOES THIS ASSCLOWN STILL HAVE A JOB?!?!

Seriously, here’s a few goaltenders making less that 4.5 AAV:

Dubnyk
Raanta
Murray
Markstrom
Vasilevskiy (not for long though)
Halak
Dell
Keumper
Gibson (huge raise incoming)
Saros
Rittich

Jesus Christ Chiarelli, a HUGE overpayment for a guy who’s played 31 NHL games and outside of a really nice 10 games streak has looked incredibly average at best. Career averages of 2.97 GAA and .905 Save%.

This org is so lost. Not a single person above the coaching bench in this org that I have any faith they know what they're doing. For the sake of winning games I mean. I know very well there are many up there that are very adept at avoiding blame and keeping their jobs.

So is Chia going to come out of hiding to discuss this deal?
